My thesis is born as a continuation of a project started during summer 2016 in Adelaide, in Australia, in the occasion of the TAP Design Workshop. The workshop treated the topic of the re-qualification of the “Riverbank West” in the city of Adelaide. I have had the chance to visit the Adelaide Gaol (dating back to 1841) that represents one of the eldest and better preserved buildings of the whole nation. During the period of the workshop the collaboration and the exchange of ideas with students from different parts of the world led to stimulating reflections and project ideas different one to another. As an European Citizen it makes me smile to think that an artefact dating back to the first part of 1800 could be considered ancient but it is a limit that has to be accepted when we want to project in a continet of “recent discovery”. Adelaide, as the rest of australian territory, is a city subjet to strong expansion and the graft of the “new” risks to obscure what is “old” and should be preserved and valorized. My thesis sets as a goal to re-qualify the area surrounding the Adelaide Gaol focusing on the principles of sustainability, conservation and identity. The project proposed by me to respect these issues is based on the realization of a thematic park about the aboriginal culture that includes both the gaol and a part of river Torrens. Particular emphasis is placed on the binomial old-new: the preservation and exaltation of the Adelaide Gaol is one of the key-themes to put in antithesis to the new advancing.

Abstract
Particular emphasis is placed on the binomial old-new: the preservation and exaltation of the Adelaide Gaol is one of the key-themes to put in antithesis to the new advancing.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
