Industrial cathedral. Theatre academy in Berlin

The design proposal consists of a project for an ex-industrial area - Nordhafen on the Berlin-Spandau Canal. Location is defined by its neglected character and absence of any connection with surrounding building tissue, since the railway and canal work as the borders, on the other side they provide important link with an artificial industrial infrastructure located downstream on the canal. Concept is formed around the notion of the Theatre Academy as a cultural institution, which can become an important social space inside the city creating a connection line between the historical city center and a big public green areas in the North of Berlin. Following this scenario the site of the project becomes a turning point. In order to emphasize this transition, project is defined by a strong spiral type of the movement, that defines internal spatial sequences. As a continuation of the external vector starting from Hamburger Museum spiral system is introduced, as one parallel vector to the main internal axis of the project. The movement from the periphery comes to the center which is perceived as the theatre by itself. Spiral system turning begins with the spinning movement which after in successive turns becomes progressiveley restricted until it reaches to the entrance of the theatre main hall. Additional option for completing the path and finishing spiral journey is to climb up to the top floor of the tower, from where a magnificent panorama of the city is provided. Spiral movement system is present in the academy building as well. Project site, situated in Nordhafen on the Berlin-Spandau Ship Canal, is defined by its ex-industrial, railway area character and currently its main function is abandoned. The location for the theatre academy is surrounded by differentiated urban fabric with defragmented structure, natural and artificial barriers that are strongly defining the boundries of the site. Future scenario is seen in one imagined possibility for continuing the cultural axis that will be connected to the very core of the city. A special system arriving from the city center of Berlin to the situation that is very dense it terms with external relations (having in mind existing axes or river as a natural factor) Typology of buildings that are basically industrial buildings, but they have the same conceptual idea, their shape was developed starting from the functional needs. The approach is based on this idea, representing it in a specific way but precisely defining functional aspects. Aspects of the location were necessary to analyze as they represent unique combination of several different factors defined by a manmade structure, an artificial channel and its flow that does not represent a form of nature in its profound meaning of the river as a natural element. The open space, as such, undefined space has certain rules and certain typology recognized in the architectural elements. Defining this as a turning point means at the same time approaching the site from the territorial, urban scale, rather than from the morphological context, as the surround territorial system is missing strong points. Spree river is defining the territory and shape of the city, in the similar way the canal is also contributing to the spatial organization within the city, which is being read as an assemblage of objects, assemblage of volumes marking interesting turning points around the canal.

La proposta di progettazione consiste in a progetto per un'area ex industriale - Nordhafen sulla Berlin-Spandau Canale. La posizione è definita dalla sua trascuratezza carattere e assenza di qualsiasi connessione con tessuto da costruzione circostante, dal momento che la ferrovia e il canale funziona come i confini, dall'altra parte forniscono un collegamento importante con un artificiale infrastruttura industriale situata a valle sul canale Il concetto è formato attorno alla nozione di Accademia teatrale come istituzione culturale, che può diventare un importante spazio sociale all'interno della città creando una linea di collegamento tra il centro storico e un grande aree verdi pubbliche nel nord di Berlino. Seguendo questo scenario, il sito del progetto diventa un punto di svolta. Per sottolineare questa transizione, il progetto è definito da un forte tipo a spirale del movimento, che definisce sequenze spaziali interne. Come continuazione dell'avvio del vettore esterno dal sistema a spirale del Museo di Amburgo introdotto, come un vettore parallelo al principale asse interno del progetto. Il movimento dalla periferia arriva al centro che è percepito come il teatro da solo. Sistema a spirale la rotazione inizia con il movimento rotatorio che dopo diventa a turno successivo progressiveley limitato fino a raggiungere il ingresso della sala principale del teatro. Opzione aggiuntiva per completare il percorso e terminare il viaggio a spirale è salire fino in cima piano della torre, da dove un magnifico panorama della città è fornito. Il sistema di movimento a spirale è presente nel anche l'accademia. Sito del progetto, situato a Nordhafen sul Canale delle navi di Berlino-Spandau, è definito dal suo carattere ex-industriale, ferroviario e attualmente la sua funzione principale è abbandonata. La posizione per l'accademia del teatro è circondato da tessuto urbano differenziato con struttura deframmentata, naturale e artificiale barriere che definiscono fortemente i confini del sito. Lo scenario futuro è visto in un immaginario possibilità di continuare l'asse culturale che sarà collegato al nucleo stesso del città. Un sistema speciale che arriva dalla città centro di Berlino per la situazione che è molto denso termini con relazioni esterne (avendo in considera gli assi o il fiume esistenti come un fattore naturale) Tipologia di edifici che sono fondamentalmente edifici industriali, ma hanno lo stesso idea concettuale, la loro forma è stata sviluppata partendo dai bisogni funzionali. Il approccio si basa su questa idea, rappresentandola in un modo specifico ma definendo con precisione funzionale aspetti. Gli aspetti della posizione erano necessari analizzare in quanto rappresentano unici combinazione di diversi fattori definito da una struttura artificiale, artificiale canale e il suo flusso che non rappresenta a forma della natura nel suo profondo significato del fiume come elemento naturale. Lo spazio aperto, come tale spazio non definito ha alcune regole e certa tipologia riconosciuta nell'architettura elementi. Definire questo come un punto di svolta significa allo stesso tempo si avvicina al sito da la scala territoriale, urbana, piuttosto che da il contesto morfologico, come il contorno il sistema territoriale manca punti forti. Il fiume Sprea sta definendo il territorio e la forma della città, nello stesso modo in cui è il canale anche contribuendo all'organizzazione spaziale all'interno della città, che viene letto come un assemblaggio di oggetti, assemblaggio di volumi segnando interessanti punti di svolta attorno al canale.
