This thesis, conceived on the basis of the Europan 14 competition, addressed in this edition to the theme of “productive cities”, consists in the project of a production / residential building in Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands. Through the study of the geographic, historical, and architectural aspects of this nation and through the deepening of the theme, we have come to identify the Dutch shop house as a model for the project, the fulcrum of commercial and mercantile activity. The research was then developed starting from the analysis of the Netherlands, examining its geographical connotations and its historical and architectural path, deepening in particular the city of Amsterdam, to be able to fully understand the areas that have generated this typology, studying its spatial, structural composition and its role in the city. Subsequently we entered more specifically the Papaverdriehoek project area, identified by Europan, analyzing the territorial evolution of the Amsterdam Noord district in which it is located, and its Buiksloterham district, to better understand the characteristics, the functions present, its historical path and vision expected for its future. The municipality of Amsterdam is in fact laying the foundations for the reconquest of the district to be implemented over the next 20/30 years, through the grafting of a process of redevelopment and gentrification. Papaverdriehoek can play a decisive role thanks to its strategic position between two completely different areas: the residential “garden cities” of the 50s and the ex-areas of the naval industry. The last section is dedicated instead to the final product, in which its spaces and architecture are described, the design sketches also illustrate the creative process supporting the case studies, which were the starting point for the design of this project. The main purpose of this thesis was therefore to design a building that, thanks to the mixture between work and production and through the contemporary reinterpretation of its traditional historical model of living, could be inserted within the Dutch territory.

Abstract
The main purpose of this thesis was therefore to design a building that, thanks to the mixture between work and production and through the contemporary reinterpretation of its traditional historical model of living, could be inserted within the Dutch territory.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
