SaaS adoption in business contest : evaluation of Oracle true Cloud method

How do companies succeed on implementing new technologies? Through this research work we aim to answer to this question. Inspired by the internship experience in which we worked on the consulting department of Oracle, we evaluate Oracle widespread methodology “The True Cloud Method” and we compare it with the most known software implementation method “The Agile Manifesto” and its principles in order to define the feasibility and the flexibility of the methodology with the evidence of two case studies in which each of us has brought his own contribution. We start off with a brief literature overview in order to assess the characteristics of cloud products with particular focus on the SaaS applications which are indeed the Software as a Service that we both implemented during our internship. We then move our focus on the methodology itself and the reasons that brought Oracle to the decision of implementing a new practice to follow, we therefore provide evidence of the intrinsic agile principles embedded in the methodology through two case studies, specifically we unbundle each agile principle in total of thirty-nine approaches that best represent the True Cloud Method. We conclude with the confirmation that the agile principles are still a valid framework to follow in case of cloud adoption bringing some personal contributions that could help on accelerating the implementation.

Come riescono ad essere competitive le aziende nell’implementazione di nuove technologie? Questa tesi ha lo scopo di provare a rispondere a questa domanda. Inspirata dall’esperienza di stage dove abbiamo lavorato in Oracle nel dipartimento di consulenza, abbiamo valutato il “True Cloud Method” la metodologia di implementazione di Oracle per prodotti SaaS, abbiamo identificato un confronto con la più famosa metodologia di implementazione “la metodologia Agile” e i vari principi in maniera tale da definire la fattibilità e la flessibilità della metodologia con rispetto dei due casi di studio in cui abbiamo lavorato singolarmente. Il lavoro è iniziato con una breve panoramica della letteratura al fine di valutare le caratteristiche dei prodotti cloud con particolare attenzione alle applicazioni SaaS, il Software as a Service che entrambi abbiamo implementato durante il nostro stage. Successivamente ci siamo focalizzati sulla metodologia di Oracle e sulle decisioni che hanno portato l’azienda ad adottare una nuova pratica da seguire, nel dettaglio abbiamo identificato degli approcci di come i principi Agile sono intrinseci nella metodologia attraverso i due casi di studio, in particolare abbiamo identificato per ogni principio agile trentanove approcci che rappresentano al meglio il True Cloud Method. Concludiamo con la conferma che i principi agili sono ancora una valida cornice da seguire in caso di adozione del cloud portando alcuni contributi personali che potrebbero aiutare ad accelerare l'implementazione.
