Towards implementation of multirotor UAVs into industrial material handling systems

The aim of this work is to investigate the topic of integration of multirotor UAS into the manufacturing environment as material handling equipment. In particular, this dissertation provides an overview of the literature covering the fields of the manufacturing environment, traditional equipment and the core topic of multirotor UAS. After figuring out the research gaps, the first objective of the dissertation is to perform the competitive benchmarking analysis between the new proposition and the existing material handling system in order to understand the competitiveness level and possible benefits. The second objective of the work is to create awareness among the producers, developers and scientists by providing a universal methodological framework for the analysis of technical feasibility and competitiveness estimation for hypothetical integration of multirotor UAS into the industrial material flows.

Lo scopo di questo lavoro è quello di indagare il tema dell'integrazione di un multirotor UAS in un ambiente di produzione, come il sistema di movimentazione dei prodotti. In particolare, questa tesi fornisce una panoramica della letteratura scientifica che ricopre i campi dell’ambiente di produzione e delle attrezzature tradizionali considerando come argomento centrale il multirotor UAS. Dopo aver capito quali sono le lacune nella ricerca già affrontata, il primo obiettivo della tesi è quello di eseguire un’analisi competitiva del benchmarking tra la nuova proposta e l'esistente sistema di movimentazione dei prodotti per capire il livello di competitività e i possibili benefici. Il secondo obiettivo del lavoro è quello di creare una consapevolezza tra i produttori, i tecnici e i ricercatori, fornendo un quadro metodologico universale per l'analisi di fattibilità tecnica e la stima della competitività per l’integrazione ipotetica del multirotor UAS nei flussi industriali dei prodotti.
