This thesis presents the electrodeposition of iron phosphorous composite coatings for functional applications. In this work, Fe-P deposits are produced by using different solutions formulations. All the electrodeposition bath is based on Iron (II) Sulfate as Iron source and Sodium Hypophosphite as Phosphorous source. Boron Carbide (B4C) nanoparticles with a mean size of 500 nm are added to obtain the composite coating and to provide more hardness and wear resistance properties to the deposited layer. The coatings were investigated in terms of bath composition and the presence and distribution of particles was determined. Coating properties were evaluated by XRD, SEM, EDX, Hardness Vickers and Tribological test. Moreover, to enhance the mechanical properties of the coatings, samples were heat treated at 500oC for one hour in inert nitrogen atmosphere. In the end, compact and homogeneous coating were obtained. Tribological and hardness characterizations revealed that this kind of coatings can be used in functional applications such as antiwear.
