Monolithic architecture has been a long time around since the birth of software in computer industry. From a so called script to an enterprise grade, a software can be simply considered as inter-connected functionalities to serve some specific requirements. This scheme however shows some outdated signs especially in network industry with huge demand of expanding yet maintaining high quality services. Therefore microservice architecture has been coming lately, almost the same time with the arrival of SDN (software defined networking), been adopted more and more in software architecture and become a new standard. Well-designed microservice architecture overcomes the challenges of monolithic architecture and achieves better quality by implementing small-scale microservice, rather than binding all functions into one monolith. By approaching this tactic, microservice architecture is very well-suited for networking software. In this thesis, I will run through the evolution of microservice architecture as well as show how well it performs in our Network Orchestration system. Experiment is taken from Demo showing in OFC (Optical Fiber Communication) Conference in Diego, California 2018.
