The focus of this research is to analyze the oversupply problem experienced in the Brazilian hotel sector after the 2014 World Cup. To do that, the research is structured in a top-down analysis, starting from the macro-economic situation in Brazil, entering in the tourism market and its tendencies for the future, narrowing the scope of vision to the hotel sector performance in the last years and finally to the oversupply issue arisen from the soccer tournament. The analysis of the oversupply problem consists of the description of the issue, the roots of the problem, how the events unfolded, and the situation the country finds itself now. In order to enhance the analysis, a comparison is made with the World Cup’s previous host, South Africa. The structure of analysis is reapplied, and later, both events are compared, highlighting similarities and differences. This research finds that Brazil was not able to rebrand itself during the World Cup and its tourism market suffered from that, especially the hotel sector. Given that, some lines of action are proposed both for the hotel sector in terms of management and qualification, and for the Brazilian government, focusing on dealing with the burden from the World Cup and facilitating the tourism market in the country. In the end, some questions are brought to light to stimulate further discussion on the subject.
L'obiettivo di questa ricerca è analizzare il problema dell'eccesso di offerta riscontrato nel settore alberghiero brasiliano dopo la Coppa del Mondo 2014. Per fare ciò, la ricerca è strutturata in un'analisi top-down, partendo dalla situazione macroeconomica in Brasile, entrando nel mercato turistico e le sue tendenze per il futuro, restringendo l'ambito della visione alle prestazioni del settore alberghiero negli ultimi anni e infine al problema dell'eccesso di offerta emerso come conseguenza del torneo di calcio. L'analisi del problema dell'eccesso di offerta consiste nella descrizione del problema, delle sue radici, come si sono svolti gli eventi e la situazione in cui si trova ora il paese. Per migliorare l'analisi, viene effettuato un confronto con il precedente ospite della Coppa del Mondo, il Sudafrica. La struttura dell'analisi viene riapplicata e, successivamente, vengono confrontati entrambi gli eventi, evidenziando somiglianze e differenze. Questa ricerca rileva che il Brasile non è stato in grado di darsi una nuova immagine durante la Coppa del Mondo e il suo mercato turistico ne ha risentito, in particolare il settore alberghiero. Detto questo, alcune linee d'azione sono state proposte sia per il settore alberghiero in termini di gestione e qualificazione, sia per il governo brasiliano, concentrandosi su come affrontare l'onere della Coppa del Mondo e facilitare il mercato turistico nel paese. Alla fine, alcune domande vengono portate alla luce per stimolare ulteriori discussioni sull'argomento.
