Pompeii is an archaeological site known all over the world as a living testimony of an exceptional historical reality. This place, unearthed by the excavations, lives in the duality between ancient and present that can be identified in the part not yet excavated of the site, a place that is within the archaeological boundary, but that follows the rules of the city outside. The project aims to be a link between the two levels, giving an alternative way to visit the site from an elevated point of view: the Tower VIII represents a starting point between the archeological level and the not excavated one, as well as the Casino dell'Aquila, whic connects the ancient decumanus to the embankment. Offering both this possibility, the route is new and unusual both for the tourist and for the operators of the site, aimed at the discovery of a Pompeii observable through new horizons. The project is addressing the needs of the land generated by the imminent change of use of the Casino dell’Aquila, now main site of the operators, which will become a new restaurant: a solution to the reduction of the work area is the construction of a new place with all necessary services, that shows a direct call of the ancient Domus both for its appearance and for its location, which is in connection with the archaeological layer. To face the extended tourist flow that will stand on the embankment, the visitor is accompanied on the unexcavated area by resting and observing places, which are repeatable and displaceable, inserted in a new design of the fields and paths. These elemets refer to some of the ancient systems - cistern, triclinium, terrace – and make it easier for the tourist to walk on the way. The Pompeii embankment is divided into two main blocks, whose only contact point is a bridge, already present during the Bourbon excavations for the transport of waste land. The project wants to make it participate in its historical role, but this time in order to facilitate turists to cross the whole way.

Abstract
The project wants to make it participate in its historical role, but this time in order to facilitate turists to cross the whole way.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
