Aree archeologiche e progetto di architettura. Pompei, le Terme Stabiane

The Stabian baths are found among street of the abundance, Street Stabia and the alley of the Lupanare. They are the most ancient baths in Pompeii and they represent one of the greatest points of interest of the whole archaeological Site. The baths were a complex in which more activities were developed in unison. In fact besides the Masculine and Female thermal plant, with relative Frigidarium, Calidarium and Tepidarium there were, a sky gym opened, where sports were made or where simply there was found for spending the time and to converse. Inside the gym there was a swimming pool to the open one, with nearby the locker rooms where the athletes changed him. This last part, important it doesn't seem today once to be valorized as, it deserves. Anybody admiring the swimming pool to today could imagine that this was decorated by mosaics and entirely dressed again with a white marble very appreciated. In anymore the adjacent spaces used once immediately as rooms to refresh, or to change nothing of what today they don't tell they were once. Rather the rooms to the left of the swimming pool they are communicating, there was also probably a small store where the materials were put back for the sports, today however there is a big structure in steel that acts from coverage against the atmospheric agents that it doesn't allow lighter from the inside the geometry of this space. From the inside of the Stabian baths, living for a while this place I realizes that from the gym it is difficult to understand as it articulated the I install thermal. Every building, every room had been thought and positioned in the most proper way, to allow to frequent the environment in pleasant way. From here the idea to realize a stair that allowed to know the insula from a taller point of view, in comparison to the common visitor. The staircase, salt following the alley of the lupanare, for then to turn inside the Stabian baths to come to cover the wall from which is accessed the locker rooms close to the swimming pool to the open one, such wall introduces plasters of the fourth style representing mythological scenes with of the and nymphs. Theirs I degrade in the time it asks for an intervention of protection, that fully comes satisfied in indirect way from the realization of the panoramic terrace. Once the gym introduced decorums of tall merit, the walls of the rooms close to the swimming pool were all decorated by plasters. This decoration has gone lost in the time and with it the connection that once tied together these environment. To recover this bond I have decided to dress again the wall that once separated the corridor from the swimming pool with a decorum in marble that still brings in stylized way the present sketches on the existing plasters.

Le Terme stabiane si trovano tra via dell’Abbondanza, Via Stabia e il vicolo del Lupanare. Esse sono le terme più antiche di Pompei e rappresentano uno dei maggiori punti di interesse di tutto il Sito archeologico. Le terme erano un complesso in cui più attività venivano svolte all’unisono. Infatti oltre all’impianto termale Maschile e Femminile, con relativi Frigidarium, Calidarium e Tepidarium vi erano, una palestra a cielo aperto, dove si facevano sport o dove semplicemente ci si trovava per passare il tempo e dialogare. All’interno della palestra vi era una piscina all’aperto , con accanto gli spogliatoi dove gli atleti si cambiavano. Quest’ultima parte, importantissima un tempo, non sembra oggi essere valorizzata come merita. Nessuno ammirando la piscina ad oggi potrebbe immaginare che questa era adornata da mosaici e rivestita interamente con un marmo bianco molto pregiato. In più gli spazi subito adiacenti, utilizzati un tempo come stanze per rinfrescarsi o cambiarsi oggi non raccontano nulla di ciò che erano un tempo. Anzi le stanze a sinistra della piscina sono comunicanti, probabilmente vi era anche un piccolo magazzino dove venivano riposti i materiali per gli sport, ad oggi però vi è una grossa struttura in acciaio che funge da copertura contro gli agenti atmosferici che non permette più di leggere dall’interno la geometria di questi spazi. Dall’interno delle Terme, vivendo per un pò di tempo questo luogo ci si accorge che dalla palestra è difficile capire come si articolava l’ impianto termale. Ogni edificio, ogni stanza era stata pensata e posizionata nel modo più adatto, per permettere di frequentare l’ambiente in modo piacevole. Da qui nasce l’idea di realizzare una passerella che permettesse di conoscere l’insula da un punto di vista più alto, rispetto al comune visitatore. La scala, sale seguendo il vicolo del lupanare, per poi svoltare all'interno delle Terme Stabiane fino ad arrivare a coprire la parete dal quale si accede agli spogliatoi accanto alla piscina all'aperto, tale parete presenta stucchi del quarto stile raffiguranti scene mitologiche con dei e ninfe. Il loro degrado nel tempo richiede un intervento di protezione, che viene pienamente soddisfatto in modo indiretto dalla realizzazione della terrazza panoramica. Un tempo la palestra presentava decori di altissimo pregio, le pareti delle stanze accanto alla piscina erano tutte adornate da stucchi . Questa decorazione è andata perduta nel tempo e con essa la connessione che un tempo legava assieme questi ambiente. Per recuperare questo legame ho deciso di rivestire la parete che un tempo separava il corridoio dalla piscina con un decoro in marmo che riporta in maniera stilizzata i disegni presenti sugli stucchi ancora esistenti.
