This thesis work inspired by a journey to the south of Italy in a beautiful old town called Matera. In 2014, at the international selection jury of Europe this city was deservedly declared as the new European Capital of Culture for 2019. This event foreshadowed the beginning of a new revival of the city under the slogan «Open the Future». This led to the creation of many new projects aimed at developing the ancient city, in new realities. One of such project was a competition for a Museum organized by INSTAURA. The main goal of this proposition was the creation of a new culture museum that would be a container of traditions able to better enhance the historical elements that make up the identity of the city. This competition was a starting point for this thesis project. Taking into account the historical value and peculiarity of Matera, I decided to do a thesis work, not only limited by the competition task, but to make a more extensive proposition and weave the museum into a common system of Sassi (the historical center of Matera) presented as an Ecomuseum. To create the cultural and informational point “Center Sassi”, that will be a kind of gate, to the labyrinth of narrow streets and old cave houses with which Matera is so famous. Based on this, the Center Sassi will have recreational, educational and information functions. Such as a cafe, exhibition hall, workshop and auditorium where guests can get to know with the culture, art and craft of Matera and also learn as much as possible about the city itself. The architectural image of the building is conceived as a cue of the traditional architectural forms of Matera in modern submission. Thus the building appears as a link between the past and the present of the town, which corresponds to its main mission as a cultural museum.

Abstract
Thus the building appears as a link between the past and the present of the town, which corresponds to its main mission as a cultural museum.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
