Progetto di edificio multifunzionale all'interno del complesso scolastico Belvedere, Losanna

The school buildings in the canton of Vaud between 1920 and 1975 testify to the evolution of the institutional representation in society and the noteworthy change in the configuration of school models, from the search for new solutions strongly supported by an active public competition policy. The attention to the pedagogical debate and the shared research on architectural language, are the key elements of a building that knows how to combine educational needs in a territory with particular orographic and cultural conditions. In this context, throughout the twentieth century, the history of scholastic architecture is able to read economic and demographic trends. A history of numerous successes and failures, in balancing the school offer with the significant although growth registered by the city. In response to a new need for expansion, the Belvédère school complex (which now covers an age group of 5 to 16) tries to invest in a structure that collects services and activities to support the needs of different levels of education, and at the same time, it also applies to the city community outside the institution. The presented project is based on the provisions of the design competition banned by the school together with the city.

Gli edifici scolastici nel Cantone di Vaud tra il 1920 e il 1975 testimoniano l’evoluzione della rappresentazione istituzionale nella società e il cambiamento degno di nota nella configurazione dei modelli scolastici, dalla ricerca di soluzioni nuove fortemente sostenute da una politica attiva del concorso pubblico. L’attenzione al dibattito pedagogico e la ricerca condivisa sul linguaggio architettonico, sono gli elementi cardine di un costruire che sappia coniugare le esigenze educative in un territorio dalle particolari condizioni orografiche e culturali. In questo contesto, nel corso di tutto il secolo XX, la storia dell’architettura scolastica riesce a leggere le evoluzioni economiche, demografiche. Una storia di numerosi successi e fallimenti, nel bilanciare l’offerta scolastica all’aumento di popolazione significativo ma discontinuo registrato dalla città. In risposta ad una nuova necessità di ampliamento, il complesso scolastico Belvédère (che copre oggi una fascia d’età dai 5 ai 16 anni) prova ad investire su una struttura che raccolga servizi e attività a supporto delle necessità dei diversi livelli di istruzione, e nel contempo si rivolga anche alla comunità cittadina esterna all’istituzione. Il progetto presentato si basa sulle disposizioni del concorso di progettazione bandito dalla scuola insieme con la città.
