Tra terra ferro e mare : un nuovo margine urbano per la città di Nizza

The thesis proposes the creation of a tactical and strategic museum, which generates a dialogue between land iron and sea. The project area is Nice, a city located in the South of France. Over the last few years, the city is undergoing urban and infrastructural transformations, including the future construction of the new tramway that will arrive from the port of Nice to the airport. The aim of the project is to connect the tramway with the sea through a museum. During the first phase the most significant territorial sections of the French city are identified: a more natural one, located on the west side, one central characterizes by mountains, and one on the east, cultural and historical dominated by the port. This last section is chosen for the thesis because it presents a rich cultural and morphological history given by the urban events that have occurred throughout history. Along this section, the temporary tactical museum was designed, which from the port of Nice, where the arrival / departure point of the future tramway will be located, to the Matisse museum, on the top of the Cimiez hill. This tactical museum is characterized by a series of temporary devices, placed along the Paillon river and by a paving that generates a sequential rhythm along the entire path. On the quay of the port, where the tramway stop will be placed, a shelter has been designed consisting of a series of arches, of different sizes, which follow one another. The permanent museum has been placed instead on the quay of the port, in front of the Promenade leading to the city's lighthouse. This is a strategic point, as it is the first place that visitors can see arriving by boat in the port of Nice. The museum is characterized by three floors: one underground and two above ground. The ramp, at the ground level, invites visitors downstairs to the main entrance of the museum. The ground floor consists of three distinct blocks, which are connected by two glazed walkways on the upper floor. Both the tactical museum and the permanent museum are thought on the principle of the movement of the ground, which by turning on itself generates the habited architecture. The project makes possible to generate a relationship between the new tramway stop and the sea, at the same time, defines a new edge for the city of Nice, perfectly relating to the surrounding context.

La tesi propone la realizzazione di un museo tattico e strategico, che genera un dialogo tra terra ferro e mare. L’area di progetto è Nizza, città situata a Sud della Francia. Nel corso degli ultimi anni, la città sta subendo profonde trasformazioni urbanistiche e infrastrutturali, tra cui la futura realizzazione della nuova tramvia che dal porto di Nizza, arriverà fino all’aeroporto. Lo scopo, dunque, del progetto è di collegare la tramvia con il mare mediante un museo. Nella prima fase sono state individuate le sezioni territoriali più significative della città francese: una più naturale, posta nella parte Ovest, una centrale montuosa, e una a Est, culturale e storica dominata dal porto. Quest’ultima sezione è stata scelta per la tesi, in quanto presenta una ricca storia culturale e morfologica dato dalle vicende urbanistiche che si sono susseguite nel corso della storia. Lungo questa sezione, è stato progettato il museo tattico, temporaneo, che dal porto di Nizza, dove si trova il punto di arrivo/partenza della futura tramvia, arriva fino al museo di Matisse, posto sulla cima della collina di Cimiez. Tale museo tattico, è caratterizzato da una serie di dispositivi temporanei, posti lungo il percorso del fiume Paillon e da una pavimentazione che genera un ritmo sequenziale lungo tutto il percorso. Sulla banchina del porto, nel punto in cui verrà posta la fermata della metro, è stata progettata una pensilina costituita da una serie di archi, di dimensioni differenti, che si susseguono tra loro. Il museo permanente è stato posto, invece, sulla banchina del porto, di fronte alla Promenade che conduce al faro della città. Questo è un punto strategico, poiché è il primo luogo che vedo giungendo in barca nel porto di Nizza. Il museo si sviluppa su tre piani: uno interrato e due fuori terra. L’accesso avviene al piano interrato mediante una rampa che accompagna il visitatore all’ingresso del museo. L’architettura fuori terra è, invece, costituita, a livello del suolo, da tre blocchi distinti tra loro che al piano superiore si relazionano tramite due passerelle completamente vetrate. Sia il museo tattico sia il museo permanente si basano sul principio del movimento di suolo, che ruotando su sé stesso genera l’architettura abitata. Il progetto consente di generare una relazione tra la nuova fermata della tramvia e, allo stesso tempo, di definire un nuovo margine per la città di Nizza, relazionandosi perfettamente con il contesto abitativo e paesaggistico circostante.
