This dissertation deals with the theme of online hate speech with a racist background. It is a phenomenon that is not at all new and at the same time extremely current; its observation and the ascertainment of how widespread it is today, especially on social networks, led me to choose to reflect on this topic and on a possible solution. In order to better understand such a complex issue, it was necessary, first of all, an extensive research that, starting from the analysis of hate speech in general, was then extended on its relationshsip with social networks, on the psychological and sociological aspects that are at its base and on the real effects of these discourses, both in the past and in today's context. With respect to this last point, the phenomenon of migration, the way the media describes it and how this story can influence the image that the public opinion has of migrants was investigated. It has been observed that despite Italy has become a country of immigration for about thirty years, there is still a single emergent narrative on this phenomenon and its protagonists. Finally, in addition to the study based on bibliographic and site references, a "field" analysis was done on the comments of the haters on the online channels of the two major Italian newspapers. The research phase was followed by a phase of survey of the online users and of the young generations, offline, through the dissemination of a questionnaire. Its results have provided many of the supporting evidences for the choice of the target and, later, for the definition of my project. With respect to the target, ie children between 10 and 11 years, the most suitable methods were investigated to maximize their engagement and, at the same time, facilitate the comprehension of messages and values to be transmitted. The final result of this work was the creation of a downloadable toolkit distributed through a Facebook group with which stakeholders can create awareness in the target on the topic addressed, through activities based on the comparison with peers, the game and the use of a narrative and metaphorical context.
Oltre i confini. Un progetto per creare consapevolezza sull'hate speech a sfondo razzista nelle giovani generazioni
