Art Prison is a project proposal to recover the fort of Santa Caterina on the island of Favignana. From the study of the historical experience in the recovery and from the research on Favignana's past, the project aims to give back to the place what time has taken away, thanks to a new function that proposes to make the fortress theatre and object of exposure. The intervention involves not only the fort, but also the path along the mountain of Santa Caterina; works are created on an environmental scale, observation bridges, visible from the village; these compositions mark and organize the surrounding space, frame the changing conditions of sea and sky. Once you reach the top, you can visit the castle, learn about the history of the place and discover the possible meanings of the concept of prisons. In order to secure the interior and to allow the visit, necessary interventions have been identified: the closing of the entrances, the insertion of frames on the windows, a walkway for the connection between isolated environments, an external staircase between two levels of terraces, the reconstruction of an external tower and the insertion of parapets for external security. All interventions are recognizable by the use of artificially oxidised copper-plated bronze finishes. Inside the fortress, exhibition spaces are created with different themes: the history of the island and the fortress; the permanent exhibition on the subject of prison; spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions; the Seeds of hope installation.

Abstract
Inside the fortress, exhibition spaces are created with different themes: the history of the island and the fortress; the permanent exhibition on the subject of prison; spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions; the Seeds of hope installation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
