Spazioinconscio

This thesis stems from the desire to investigate the connection between the unconscious universe of the human mind and the perception of the built environment. The aim of the research is to understand how this relationship has been explored throughout history within the disciplinary debate and whether today this theme can still represent a starting point to reach a greater awareness of how human beings live the space that hosts them. The research can be considered as a reading of the state of the art of this theme, retracing the steps defined by the major lines of thought through the history of the last two centuries. Starting from the debate on Space, expressed by the major architecture theorists of late-nineteenth-century-Germany, the research analyses the concepts of empathy, atmosphere and attunement, coming to the most modern research and contribution of neurosciences. In recent years, this discipline has brought us to a broader understanding of the perceptual mechanisms and the relationship between space, movement, body and mind, to offer new points of view regarding the ways through which we relate to space and with which the space can be designed. The final chapter analyzes the work of the academic and professional realities (in Italy but not only), which today are concerned with deepening the knowledge of the relationships between the human being and the built space, proposing a small test elaborated in cooperation with professionals of the sector to experiment, in order to experiment the theories and the tools also from a practical point of view.

Questa tesi trova origine nel desiderio di indagare la connessione tra l’universo inconscio della mente umana e la percezione dello spazio costruito per capire come questo rapporto sia stato esplorato nel corso della storia all’interno del dibattito disciplinare e se oggi questo tema possa ancora rappresentare uno spunto di riflessione per raggiungere una maggiore consapevolezza di come l’uomo viva lo spazio che lo ospita. La ricerca si pone quindi come una lettura dello stato dell’arte di questa tematica, ripercorrendo le tappe definite dalle maggiori linee di pensiero attraverso la storia degli ultimi due secoli. Partendo dal dibattito sullo Spazio, sostenuto dai maggiori teorici dell’architettura nella Germania di fine Ottocento, la ricerca rilegge concetti come quello di empatia, di atmosfera e di attunement, per giungere alle più moderne ricerche ed al contributo delle neuroscienze che negli ultimi anni sono state in grado di fornire una più ampia conoscenza dei meccanismi percettivi e della relazione tra spazio, movimento, corpo e mente, fino ad offrire nuovi punti di vista riguardo alle modalità con cui ci si rapporta e con cui si può progettare lo spazio. La tesi si conclude analizzando l’operato delle realtà accademiche e professionali, italiane ma non solo, che oggi si occupano di approfondire la conoscenza delle relazioni che legano l’uomo e lo spazio costruito, proponendo un piccolo test elaborato in collaborazione con professionisti del settore per sperimentare anche dal punto di vista pratico, gli strumenti che oggi ci sono dati.
