This thesis develops from the revision of a project which was delivered for a competition in November, 2017. The object of the competition was an open air theater located on the Atlantic cost in Portugal. The redesign of this project is guided by a sensorial approach. The thesis is composed of two parts. The first one includes a thorough research on senses and space design, which is further addressed to water space. It presents a comparison between the Western way of making use of senses in space design and the Oriental approach, taking the traditional Chinese living philosophy as an example. The second part regards the redesign of the project. It is the starting point for further research, applying the sensorial approach for creating a space which stimulates multi-sensorial perceptions, in order to provide a life-enhancing spatial experience. Taking advantage of the presence of the Atlantic Ocean on site, the redesign of this open air theater considers water and the healing natural landscape a stage for public life of the local community.

Abstract
This thesis develops from the revision of a project which was delivered for a competition in November, 2017. The object of the competition was an open air theater located on the Atlantic cost in Portugal. The redesign of this project is guided by a sensorial approach. The thesis is composed of two parts. Taking advantage of the presence of the Atlantic Ocean on site, the redesign of this open air theater considers water and the healing natural landscape a stage for public life of the local community.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
