Every day from our taps, tens or even hundreds of liters of water are wasted: an expenditure that does not impact only on the economy, but also and above all on the environment and society. Although the drought does not seem to be a concrete emergency to many, the scarcity of water resources in some places on the globe costs a child life every 15 seconds (data: Unicef, 2018). Moreover, today 2.1 billion people live without potable in their homes (data: Unicef, 2018) and can be around 5 billion by 2050: it is therefore necessary to take action as soon as possible in order to adopt new systems and avoid the waste of a strategic resource for the survival of the planet by urging a conscious consumer education. Water is a public good and in its use we measure the different cultural sensitivities of each society that think in terms of future and, despite for many populations, opening the tap and seeing plenty of water come out is a daily gesture, there are those who do not have this good with this facility and weekly have date and time to fill their buckets. This thesis wants to analyze not only the contexts in which the lack of water resources is already an emergency, but also the behaviors that- accomplices the lack of a correct environmental education and of the awareness of their daily actions - contribute to worsening the situation of a resource already in deficit. If, as the Romans said, "mater artium necessitas" (necessity sharpens ingenuity), through Design we want to offer people the possibility of greater control of their consumption, enabling them to know and making sure that they no longer cause the problem, but they contribute to the solution.Of necessity, virtue. Starting from an in-depth analysis of the needs and the situation today in the precarious Brazilian urban settlements, a manual has been developed that aims to guide the user to the correct use of the water they have available, as well as a series of products that adopt the philosophy of reuse and recycling typical of the scenario in question. With these proposals we want to work on the cultural dimension related to the use of water and to that practice, inviting through use to a more conscious and sustainable dimension.

Abstract
It is the case of the inhabitants of the precarious Brazilian settlements that live their lives between a normal water supply, often obtained from irregular networks and links, and periods of total dryness. With these proposals we want to work on the cultural dimension related to the use of water and to that practice, inviting through use to a more conscious and sustainable dimension.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
