This project consists in enhancing and retraining the farmhouse of Cerina di Sotto, horse breeding farm located in the south-west countryside of Morimondo municipality, by the implementation of new spaces and the strenghtening of the existing connection to the surrondings. The farm currently hold the Assandri Riding club, horses husbandry with 53 horses, that promotes pedagogical activities with the schools of the municipality. By analyzing the PTCP and the historical cadastres of the area between XVIII and XX century, it has been clear that the potential of this land stays inside the numerous historical permanences, reflected into woods, water canals, shape of cultivation, farmhouses and roads. The land of Morimondo is also part of Parco naturale lombardo della Valle del Ticino, since 1974, therefore having various typical characteristics of the park, about flora and fauna. This characters defines a protected landscape of historical and environmental importance. Nowadays most of the touristic flow stays around Morimondo abbey and its village, and the municipality created a various list of itineraries and activities for families and people of all ages, that can be seen on the municipality website. Most of these paths start from the village of Morimondo or from some of the farmstead close to it, like Cascina Coronate or Cascina Fiorentina, that organize touristic events as well. The project aims to promote a new typology of activity for this area, that consists in the medical rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The rehabilitation can be a long and difficult process that requires time and patience, and its objective may also be the reintegration of people inside the normal society with a physiological and mental strengthening. In this case, nature can provide a very different approach to this medical aspects, by carrying these activities inside a rural space where usually nothing recalls the technical and severe aspect of the treatment centers. This situation helps to include inside the treatment more communitarian functions that helps patients to live differently their conditions and learn new ways to heal themselves. About that, in the project there is also the implementation of agricultural and gardening activities, like the japanese synergistic gardem (revisted also in Spain and adapted for the mediterranean environment), Km 0 vegetable products and thermal activities. The thermal activity, like the synergistic garden, can be experienced by patients and by tourists as well, creating a connection point between tourism and hospital spaces. The existing pedagogical activities inside the horses husbandry may be a good connection to the rehabilitation functions by promoting ippotherapy, an old healing method arrived in Italy mainly from the seventies through ANIRE Associazione Nazionale Italiana per la Riabilitazione Equestre and from studies done by the psychologist Danièle Nicolas Citterio. These group of activities generate a place where patients, families and childrens can learn the benefits of working with the green and in harmony with a charming and historical environment that have led each of these establishments to acquire their unique identity, preserved and protected over the centuries, as an important sign of identity inside the italian landscape network.
