E-couture. Renewable jewelry : an alternative perspective for handcraft accessories

Recycle, reuse and redesign - the three Rs that have made their way into the fashion system with a new force in the recent years, and the designers are the key to take the correct steps towards a fashionable sustainable future. The present industry has no limits, as reported in the documentary “The True Cost” by Andrew Morgan, which shows how the consumerism transformed completely the fashion system, and naturally impacting our lifestyle. Looking back the fashion history after an ideal future is easily found in the 1960’s during the Space Age, style notorious for breaking the fashion traditions, revolved around the idea of exploration, pushing further the boundaries to innovate the industry. Designers were experimenting with new materials and silhouettes to project the future inspired by the global space race, and the first steps of man on moon. It is not a coincidence that the style is returning, when now we are living extreme changes with the Internet social revolution, environmental emergencies, and unstable global politics. Perhaps the times have forced fashion to become more practical, but it’s fashion’s function to mirror the society current situation, also to look forward for a better and more sustainable future. The methodology to execute the current jewelry collection is based on the upcycling, the field of the sustainable culture that explores the use of leftovers and materials that are considered as waste in developing new products. The application of alternatives materials and obsolete objects, such as - used cd’s, computer hardware, packaging, follows the style of the sixties Space Age to propose shapes with alternative materials for a special product, therefore a meaning. The main goal is to create a fashionable collection, with a playful aesthetic, worry about the trend and the care. The search to use these alternative materials will walk along the creation of possible models and functionality for the final product.

Riciclare, riutilizzare e riprogettare: le tre R che hanno fatto il loro ingresso nel sistema moda con una nuova forza negli ultimi anni, ei designer sono la chiave per compiere i passi giusti verso un futuro sostenibile alla moda. L'industria attuale non ha limiti, come riportato nel documentario "The True Cost" di Andrew Morgan, che mostra come il consumismo abbia trasformato completamente il sistema moda, e naturalmente influenzando il nostro stile di vita. Guardando indietro alla storia della moda dopo un futuro ideale si trova facilmente negli anni '60 durante lo Space Age, lo stile noto per rompere le tradizioni della moda, ruotava intorno all'idea di esplorazione, spingendo oltre i confini per innovare il settore. I progettisti stavano sperimentando nuovi materiali e sagome per proiettare il futuro ispirato alla corsa spaziale globale e ai primi passi dell'uomo sulla luna. Non è una coincidenza che lo stile stia tornando, quando ora stiamo vivendo cambiamenti estremi con la rivoluzione sociale di Internet, le emergenze ambientali e la politica globale instabile. Forse i tempi hanno costretto la moda a diventare più pratica, ma la funzione della moda è quella di rispecchiare la situazione attuale della società, anche per guardare avanti verso un futuro migliore e più sostenibile. La metodologia per eseguire l'attuale collezione di gioielli si basa sull'upcycling, il campo della cultura sostenibile che esplora l'uso di avanzi e materiali considerati rifiuti nello sviluppo di nuovi prodotti. L'applicazione di materiali alternativi e oggetti obsoleti, come cd usati, hardware, packaging, segue lo stile dell'età spaziale degli anni sessanta per proporre forme con materiali alternativi per un prodotto speciale, quindi un significato. L'obiettivo principale è creare una collezione alla moda, con un'estetica giocosa, preoccuparsi della tendenza e della cura. La ricerca di utilizzare questi materiali alternativi porterà avanti la creazione di possibili modelli e funzionalità per il prodotto finale.
