Purpose. This research contributes to the growing level of environmental attention that manufacturing firms devote to green supply chain management (GSCM) as an answer to the concern about global warming, reduction of non-renewable resources and pollution level. The body of knowledge regarding this matter does not provide clear evidence on the effective impact of green initiatives’ implementation on firms’ performance. Discordance is also present for which stakeholders influence the implementation of certain practices. Thus, the aim of this thesis is analyzing possible moderation factors that affect the relationships between pressures-practices and practices-performance. Methodology. Starting from a systematic literature review (SLR), the research framework and the possible moderation factors, which affect the relationships between pressures-practices and practices-performance, have been identified. Using the data from a survey investigating the level of implementation of green practices in 169 Italian manufacturing firms, a moderation analysis for each moderator has been executed with the help of the macro Process, developed by Hayes (2018) for SPSS software. Finding and practical implication. This analysis shows that specific moderators strongly affect the relationships between GSCM pressures-practices and practices-performance. In this perspective, managers and supply chain specialists could look at these research findings in order to investigate the effective efficiency of particular pressure on the implementation of specific green initiatives. Similarly, they could notice the level of performance achieved thanks to these green practices’ adoption. Originality/Value. This thesis tries to close the research gap regarding the ambiguous results found in literature on the already mentioned relationships. Furthermore, it provides instruments and evidence on the influence of few moderators that firms could use to achieve better results in the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM). Research limitations. There are some limitations to this study, in line with similar researches. Since data were collected from a single country (Italy), results could differ in other countries. Furthermore, financial performance are measured by perception of respondents and not by real financial data and indexes. This perception has potential to exceed or underestimate the real performance achieved by the firm. These limitations should be addressed in the future research in order to picture with more level of detail all the topics described.
Obiettivo.
