The landmark building in the city bears important urban functions and spiritual functions. The society calls for the proper protection of this kind of historical building and pays attention to its great function of continuing context and mapping emotion. When the original state, scale, image and function of the local standard buildings are not suitable for the development of today's cities, we need to update them in space. Because the problem of landmark building is not only a single building problem, but also it is closely related to the development of the city and the urbanization process. Therefore, the space renewal design of landmark buildings needs new and suitable methods and concepts to discuss. Furthermore, this paper puts forward the thinking mode of "analogy method" to study the spatial renewal of landmarks. First of all, through the study of "analogy method", this paper expounds the applicability of "analogy method" to the renewal of landmarks' space. It makes it clear that "analogy" is a design method that finds the inner "type" and establishes a resonance between history and reality, and then it uses "analogy" to sort out the characteristics of landmarks in detail. It is further found that the key to the renewal of landmark space is to strengthen its urban vitality and excavate its spiritual and cultural connotation. Finally, this paper puts forward the specific design strategies to be applied to the renewal of landmarks' space under the guidance of "analogy method". And in the Beijing Exhibition Center space renewal design applied these strategies, it attempts to create a landmark building that embodies civic culture, highlights the role of urban space, and carries public life.
