The main stream of study is analyzing the relation between community theories (Habermas and Arendt) and recent urbanism theory (New Urbanism). The most important aspect of the thesis is to have analysis about how those philosophies in one side, and urbanism theories in another side, have inspired on each other. To achieve this goal, at first the views of the great German philosopher Jürgen Habermas has been considered. Habermas's opinion on the public sphere is based on his general Frankfurt school, where he examines the history as well as the reasons for the emergence of the public sphere. An important point about Habermas' views is his attention to the public sphere of the bourgeoisie and the critique of this area. Furthermore, the idea of public sphere of Hannah Arendt have been analyzed. The result of study and According to the considerations, it seems that New Urbanism, at least in aspect of physical shape and public space, is supporting and developing the community theories which Hanna Arendt and Habermas have discussed. This is also the answer to the primary question of thesis that was to what extent have Habermas and Arendt public community theory been observed in the of new-urbanism and postmodernism planning.
