State-of-the-art blockchain technology and its possible use case for the Icelandic fishing industry

The Blockchain Technology has been gradually gaining more attention over the past few years. Organisations are now starting to develop a more comprehensive understanding on what this novel technology is and how it works. While there is existing research on blockchain, none of the prior research found gives a thorough and complete overview. This study tries to summarize and add to existing knowledge on the state-of-the-art Blockchain Technology, focusing on the Public Blockchains. Qualitative research methods were used to collect information. KPMG in Iceland, which is working on creating a more extensive know-how on the Blockchain, assisted in collecting information. The study showed that the Blockchain can be best described as extension of the traditional internet of information and communication. It provides internet users with the possibility to transfer peer-to-peer any unique piece of digital property, instead of just the copy of the original. The study also revealed a possible use-case for Blockchain in the Icelandic Fishing Industry. The technology looks promising for the supply chain, it could assist Icelandic Fisheries in tackling seafood fraud more effectively, streamline their supply chain operations and give them a platform to get closer to the end customer.

La tecnologia Blockchain sta gradualmente guadagnando più attenzione negli ultimi anni. Le organizzazioni stanno ora iniziando a sviluppare una comprensione più completa su ciò che questa nuova tecnologia è e come funziona. Mentre esiste una ricerca sulla blockchain, nessuna delle ricerche precedenti ha fornito una panoramica completa e completa. Questo studio cerca di riassumere e aggiungere alla conoscenza esistente la tecnologia Blockchain all'avanguardia, concentrandosi sugli Blockchain pubblici.
