Interactive narrative flow. L'interactive documentary come sistema divulgativo di narrazioni complesse

Since forever, humans have been looking for various methods to communicate and express. Evolution of social media is the right example for the new age communication. These new ways of sharing ideas and speaking on a media platform will constantly age as the technological impact. This constant change of evolution processes results in all the languages and communication systems that we use in 2018, and as well how they interact with each other in order to provide a story as complete as possible. In this mix of different languages and media channels, there is a newborn artifact: The interactive documentary. This system is born more like an artistic way of communicating. A system that could be used in different ways and situations. An interactive documentary is a narrative path through videos, infographics, texts and interactive contents in which the user is both the author and the creator. A platform in which he can create an incredible engagement with the user. Through this, a user can feel more involved and with more potentiality, independently from the complexity of the content circulated. This is a crucial point, in fact from this idea: that the i-doc is a perfect way to circulate complex narrative. It’s both cross-medial and multimedia system, from this thought I picked my question on which I created my thesis: can an interactive documentary support and transmit a complex narration? From this point, it was necessary to test my hypothesis, first of all, finding a complex story. I picked one important theme, around which nowadays a lot of media talk about but common people didn’t understand well the meaning: the blockchain technology. This thesis explore the bases of interactive documentary, looking for the pillars and meaning with the final objective to create a product that could be used both to transmit a complex narration that is related with blockchain technology and as well any kind of complex story. In fact, the aim is that it could become a framework that could be used for any kind of story related to the different subject.

Da sempre l’uomo è alla ricerca di modi di comunicare che si evolvano insieme alle tematiche che vuole narrare. Questo processo di evoluzione ha portato ad avere nel 2018 una serie di linguaggi e di sistemi comunicativi che interagiscono tra loro al fine di poter veicolare nel modo più completo possibile una storia. In questo mix di linguaggi e canali, si inserisce un nuovo artefatto relativamente recente: l’ interactive documentary. Nato come sperimentazione artistica si è poi evoluto fino ai giorni nostri come un sistema dai molteplici usi e applicazioni. L’interactive documentary, si presenta come un percorso narrativo attraverso video, infografiche, testi e contenuti interattivi, in cui l’utente è narratario ma anche narratore. Attraverso il particolare ingaggio che la piattaforma instaura con il fruitore, egli raggiunge una maggiore consapevolezza sia delle proprie potenzialità, che del contenuto veicolato, indipendentemente dalla complessità. Infatti, è proprio facendo riferimento alla peculiarità dell’interactive documentary di essere veicolo di narrazioni anche complesse, data la sua conformazione sia crossmediale che multimediale, che è emersa la domanda di tesi: può il sistema comunicativo dell’interactive documentary supportare e veicolare una narrazione complessa? Nasce da questo punto, la necessità di testare direttamente l’ipotesi, individuando una narrazione complessa, di cui molto si parla in questi mesi e di cui poco gli utenti medi hanno compreso il significato: la tecnologia blockchain. Questa tesi esplora quindi le basi dell’interactive documentary, andandone ad indagare le radici e i pilastri fondamentali con l’obiettivo finale di creare un prodotto che possa essere utilizzato sia per veicolare la narrazione complessa legata alla tecnologia blockchain, ma che all’occorrenza possa diventare un framework a cui associare qualsiasi narrazione che possa essere identificata come complessa.
