Jianguomen urban development

In the definition of the project, particular importance has been given to the consideration of some general aspects that define the inner city of Xi’an. The project bases its foundations in a design vision that combines the general complexities of the city Ming, neighbourhood identity and contextual issues. Through the interweaving of these three layers, a project has been defined to enable new economic and social solutions for the design area as well as a concrete opportunity to experiment different modes of entertainment in a particular and important point of the city of Xi’an. The project area is considered not only as an element but as a continuation of the experiences that pe- ople can enjoy walking along the road that surrounds the walls. So an area therefore offers not only a solution to the contextual problems but relates to the adjacent areas offering different moments and experiences originating from the identity of the context. The composition of the project originates in the search for a close relationship between the characteristics of the city in its entirety, the identity of the project area and its main properties in terms of the issues to be solved. A layer overlay that allows the area to be transformed considering its single aspect in the different steps of intervention. Starting from the consideration of the existence of portions of cities around the low permeable walls, the project seeks its porosity and its permeability through the fragmentation of spaces allowing to relate to other portions of the city and to reach the gates across the entire area in question. The enhancement of the site’s identity defines the second key theme by proposing space and functional compositions that enhance the market idea through proposals that aggregate economy and culture. Neighborhood issues have also been considered in terms of spatial organization, composition and quality of public spaces to provide citizens and workers in the area with a space that can increase econo- mic relations and provide an environment for personal growth of individuals. Nella definizione del progetto, è stata rilevante la considerazione di alcuni aspetti generali che definiscono la città interna di Xi'an. Il progetto pone le sue fondamenta in una visione progettuale che combina le complesse complessità della città storica, l’identità che caratterizza l’area progettuale e i problemi contestuali dell’angolo sud-est delle mura. Attraverso la combinazione di questi differenti tessuti sociali, è stato definito un progetto che garantisce nuove opportunità economiche e soluzioni di interazione sociale attraverso la sperimentazione di diverse modalità di intrattenimento. L'area progettuale è quindi considerata non solo come un elemento puntuale ma come combinazione di continue esperienze a contatto con le mura storiche della città. Quindi un'area in grado di offrire non solo una soluzione ai problemi contestuali ma in grado di relazionarsi alle aree adiacenti, le quali offrono possibilità di interazione e intrattenimento. Le caratteristiche del progetto nascono dalla ricerca di una stretta relazione tra le qualità della città nella sua interezza e l’attuale identità dell'area di riferimento, in specifico delle sue principali proprietà. La composizione architettonica nasce dalla sovrapposizione di 3 layer che consentono di trasformare l'area considerando il suo singolo aspetto nelle diverse fasi di intervento. Il progetto crea all’interno dei suoi spazi, porosità e permeabilità attraverso la frammentazione creata dagli edifici che permettono di relazionarsi con altre parti della città e raggiungere facilmente i differenti gate di accesso. La valorizzazione dell'identità del sito definisce il secondo tema chiave proponendo spazio e composizioni funzionali che valorizzano l’idea di mercato attraverso proposte che aggregano economia e cultura. Anche le relazioni con il vicinato sono state considerate in termini di composizione spaziale, garantendo qualità degli spazi pubblici per fornire ai cittadini e ai lavoratori uno spazio in grado di aumentare le relazioni economiche e fornire un ambiente per la crescita personale degli individui.
