This thesis investigates the main photographic post-production softwares, how these influence the photo editing and studies the communication techniques with an educational and tutoring aim, adopted by photographers and professional retouchers on the Instagram social media. The aim is to realize a concept for a service in the Instagram app to simplify the distribution of educational materials trough video-class by social media creators. This service aims also at facilitating the future use of those contents from others users of the platform. The study of the softwares analyzed (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Capture One) is performed by illustrating the basics photo-editing practices for the production of a quality image and the interfaces of the softwares themselves and how they affect the editing of the contents. On Instagram, instead, the study of the case studies communication analyzed is developed with a collection of the contents published by each subject and the analysis and categorization of the same. The way in which these instructive contents are shared with the other platform users and what kind of communication relationship exists between users according to each case in question are analyzed. Later, the needs and problems that Instagram platform user face during a fruition aimed at the collection of educational material in the photographic and post-production fields are investigated. The desktop and mobile interface of Instagram and the Instagram TV function are then analyzed. These data are the basis for the design of Instagram Learn, a service aimed at improving the experience of the creator (who uploads content) that wants to publish video lessons on the social network. The creator then becomes an educator who interacts with his follower base in order to better share his knowledge. The service is also useful for the followers themselves, who no longer encounter the difficulties presented by the current state of Instagram technologies.
In questo elaborato di tesi si indagano i principali software di post produzione fotografica, come questi influenzano l’elaborazione fotografica e si studiano le tecniche comunicative, a scopo educativo e di tutoring, adottate da fotografi e ritoccatori professionisti sul social media Instagram. L’obiettivo è quello di realizzare un concept per un servizio nell’applicazione Instagram che faciliti la divulgazione di materiali educativi sotto forma di videolezioni da parte dei creator del social media. Questo servizio mira anche ad agevolare la successiva fruizione di quei contenuti da parte degli altri utenti della piattaforma. Lo studio dei programmi presi in esame (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom e Capture One ) viene eseguito illustrando le pratiche di fotoritocco essenziali per la produzione di un’immagine di qualità e le interfacce dei programmi stessi e di come questi influenzano la modifica dei contenuti. Su Instagram, invece, lo studio della comunicazione dei casi studio presi in esame viene svolto con una raccolta dei contenuti pubblicati da ciascun soggetto e l’analisi e categorizzazione degli stessi. È analizzato il modo in cui questi contenuti informativi vengono condivisi con gli altri utenti della piattaforma e che tipo di rapporto comunicativo intercorre tra gli utenti a seconda del caso in oggetto. Successivamente vengono indagate le necessità e le problematiche che gli utenti della piattaforma Instagram riscontrano durante una fruizione volta alla raccolta di materiale educativo nell’ambito fotografico e della post produzione. Viene quindi analizzata l’interfaccia desktop e mobile di Instagram e della funzione Instagram TV. Questi dati sono la base per la progettazione di Instagram Learn, un servizio volto a migliorare l’esperienza del creator (colui che carica contenuti) che intenda pubblicare videolezioni sul social network. Il creator diventa quindi un educator che interagisce con la sua base follower al fine di condividere al meglio le proprie conoscenze. Il servizio è altresì utile per i follower stessi, che non riscontrano più le difficoltà presentate dallo stato attuale delle tecnologie di Instagram.
