Progetti per Genova. Riscoprire il mare a Sampierdarena. Relazione di progetto

The proposed work is placed within the general theme of the "port cities" of the Mediterranean Sea, developing a specific focus on the city of Genoa. The Genoese context is considered at different scales and disarticulated according to four issues that encompass the complexity and completeness of the topic. Firstly, the socio-economic, infrastructural, historical and port scenarios of Genoa are analyzed, trying to return a profile that takes into account current and agitated events that involve the contemporary urban framework. The thesis focuses on a possible design response that finds its physical dimension in the Sampierdarena district. The urban context requires in-depth analysis regarding historical settlement trends and today's urban sociology as well as considerations about the urban fabric and its relationship with Genoa and its city center. The primary objective was to hold together the various components of a project able to put the city, its problems and its potentialities into the system with the project, in dialogue both at the scale of the block and the wider one of the neighborhood, of Genoa and the territory. The project is therefore strengthened on regeneration and it is inspired by the infrastructure of the elevated port, the road of the tyrs, converted into a long urban promenade configured as a new waterfront. The long axis of the project, extending along the length of Sampierdarena, interprets the different ways of human settlement and modifies them, returning them to Genoa. In the global panorama of naval gigantism and of the competitive expansion of the great ports, the challenge that Genoa has to be ready to welcome consists in the dialogue between the adaptation of the infrastructure at every scale and that relationship between city and sea that has shaped it from its origins . Lastly, the balance between these two tensions is the primary cause and the stimulus that can make Genoa capable of assuming a prominent position in the Mediterranean and European context.

Il lavoro proposto si colloca all’interno del tema generale delle “città porto” del Mediterraneo sviluppando un affondo specifico sulla città di Genova. Il contesto genovese viene considerato a diverse scale e disarticolato secondo quattro questioni che racchiudono la complessità e completezza dell’ argomento. In primo luogo vengono analizzati gli scenari socio-economici, infrastrutturali, storici e portuali di Genova, cercando di restituire un profilo che tenga conto dell’attualità e delle agitate vicende che coinvolgono il quadro urbano contemporaneo. La tesi si concentra su una possibile risposta progettuale che trova la sua dimensione fisica nel quartiere di Sampierdarena. Il contesto urbano in oggetto necessita di approfondimenti riguardanti le tendenze insediative storiche e la sociologia urbana odierna cosi come di considerazioni circa il tessuto urbano e la sua relazione con Genova e col il suo centro. L’obbiettivo primario è stato quello di tenere insieme le varie componenti di un progetto in grado di mettere a sistema la città, le sue problematiche e le sue potenzialità con il nuovo intervento, in dialogo tanto alla scala dell’isolato quanto a quella più ampia del quartiere, di Genova e del territorio. Il progetto si fa forza dunque sulla rigenerazione e trae spunto dall’infrastruttura della sopraelevata portuale, la strada dei tir, riconvertita in una lunga passeggiata urbana configurata come nuovo fronte a mare. Il lungo asse di progetto, estendendosi per tutta la lunghezza di Sampierdarena, interpreta i modi differenti dell’insediamento umano e li modifica, riconsegnandoli a Genova. Nel panorama globale del gigantismo navale e dell’espansione competitiva dei grandi porti, la sfida che Genova deve essere pronta ad accogliere, consiste nel dialogo tra adeguamento dell’infrastruttura ad ogni scala e quel rapporto tra città e mare che le ha dato forma dalle origini. L’equilibrio tra queste due tensioni, da ultimo, è la causa prima e lo stimolo che, alla pari di altre, può rendere Genova capace di assumere una posizione di rilievo nel contesto mediterraneo ed europeo.
