The thesis project stems from a principle of necessity: the competition announced by the Camera di Commercio of Milan-Monza-Brianza-Lodi for the redevelopment of a building owned by the institution, located on the corner between vicolo Santa Maria alle Porta and via delle Orsole. The context is the nucleus of the ancient formation of Milan, a part of the city rich in history and stratifications that have followed one another over time, within which the variety and contrasts become synonymous of architectural and spatial quality. The building, designed by Antonio Cassi Ramelli between 1957 and 1962 according to the most advanced canons for the period, is currently undergoing heavy use because of its inadequacy in space, plant design and functionality. The project takes its first steps through a careful re-reading of the specific characteristics of the existing building and identifies, jointly with a critical re-reading of the architectural culture of the twentieth century Milan, the theme of measurement as an interpretative key for the project, able to overcome the proof of the time. The actualization of those characters becomes the common thread that legitimizes the contemporary project, through the study of recent Milanese and European built experiences. The project aims to reinterpret these issues through the grafting of new volumes that reflect the measurements and the edges of the historical building. The theme of research of the thesis is therefore the way in which contemporary architecture can intervene on the consolidated historical fabric, placing itself in a condition of continuity with history itself.

Abstract
The theme of research of the thesis is therefore the way in which contemporary architecture can intervene on the consolidated historical fabric, placing itself in a condition of continuity with history itself.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
