The following thesis focuses on the SIMM model, the Standard Initial Margin Model. It was released by ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association) and it is used to compute the amount of initial margin that two counterparties are (or will be) obliged to exchange as a result of bilateral financial transactions on the Over the Counter (OTC) market. In particular, the model is described, implemented and applied to some reference portfolios in order to analyze the result. The impact that the model and the new regulatory framework could have on the banking system, especially in terms of capital and liquidity, is analyzed.
