There are indeed multiple applications domains for Big Data technologies and each of them may have peculiar characteristics. Thanks to this analysis, a graphical model, containing all the relevant dimensions for each sector, is presented. After this quantitative analysis, the analysis focuses on the Transport and the Healthcare industry sectors, which are further investigated in order to confirm or to reject the aspects emerged from the survey, but also to unveil new ones. For doing this, a desk analysis is conducted, consisting in the study of projects of flagship importance for the adoption of Big Data technologies in the two domains. The results of the research can be taken as a reference for those organizations that want to start projects or that want to benchmark their technologies in a domain, allowing them to know through a holistic approach which are the key characteristics, implemented technologies and the main problems and opportunities for the adoption of Big Data and Benchmarking technologies within a sector.

Abstract
Nowadays, the amount of data generated is dramatically increasing and technology developments allow to store a wide variety data. Big Data is recognised as huge amount of data that organizations are now able to analyse in order to capture actionable insights for their business and to enable data-driven decision making. More and more technologies are being implemented to deal with the volume, variety and velocity of data, and all the technologies have peculiar characteristics that make them suitable in different contexts. For this reason, the interest in Benchmarking is also gaining momentum. Benchmarking allows organisations to test how their systems are performing and to understand how their configurations are working in order to select those technologies most adequate to their needs. Starting from the results of a survey regarding Big Data and Benchmarking, it is first investigated each single aspect and their relative importance; these dimensions are then analysed respect to specific industry sectors. The results of the research can be taken as a reference for those organizations that want to start projects or that want to benchmark their technologies in a domain, allowing them to know through a holistic approach which are the key characteristics, implemented technologies and the main problems and opportunities for the adoption of Big Data and Benchmarking technologies within a sector.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
