Ex cantieri navali : Pietra Ligure

The ex Cantieri Navali Rodriquez appear today as a gigantic skeleton set between the sea and the railway, which extends for about 500 meters. The intent of the developed project aims to give back to Pietra Ligure inhabitants a city piece that had made up, until 2007, the Pietra Ligure productive nucleus and around which, at the beginning of the last century, the whole community developed. Unable to convert the current factory according to the contemporary production needs, the project conceives new uses that find their legitimacy in the construction of a marina; therefore the project consists of support services to the port, residences, public and private building for the community, commercial spaces and accommodation facilities, that have in the new seafront, the whole area characterizing element, the main view. Because of the strong historical character of the existing buildings, as well as the spatiality and the architectural quality of the structures, the choice is to work on the built aiming at its development. Continuing towards the east, the former Shipyard naval workshop, characterized by impressive structures and wide spaces, become a big functional container, a sort of small covered village where all the activities of daily life take place; public and private spaces, commercial services, tertiary and residences are interspersed and linked by hierarchical path systems, characterized by different space quality. Attached to the workshops there is Building A that, because of its historical value and its characteristic free plan due to the needs of the shipyard, was intended for important uses: a permanent market, a museum and, finally, a yacht club. A large square, placed in central position interposed between the sea and the railway, offers an opportunity to realize new connections with the surrounding city. To the east, located between two slipways once used for hauling and launching boats, is located the Building B; commercial strip on the ground floor, it hosts on the upper floors houses “a ballatoio”, and it ends at the top with four "villas".

Gli ex Cantieri Navali Rodriquez appaiono oggi come un gigantesco scheletro incastonato tra il mare e la ferrovia, che si estende per circa 500 metri. L’intento del progetto sviluppato mira a riconsegnare ai pietresi un brano di città che ha costituito, sino al 2007, il nucleo produttivo di Pietra Ligure e intorno al quale, agli inizi del secolo scorso, si è sviluppata l’intera comunità pietrese. Nell’impossibilità di convertire l’attuale stabilimento in funzione delle contemporanee esigenze produttive, il progetto immagina nuove destinazioni d’uso che trovano, nella realizzazione di un porto turistico, la loro legittimazione; il progetto si compone quindi di servizi di sostegno al porto, residenze, strutture ad uso collettivo pubbliche e private, spazi commerciali e strutture ricettive, che prediligono nel nuovo fronte mare, elemento caratterizzante l’intera area, l’affaccio principale. Dato il forte carattere storico degli edifici esistenti, così come la spazialità e la qualità architettonica delle strutture presenti, la scelta è stata quella di lavorare sul costruito mirando ad una sua valorizzazione. Proseguendo verso levante, le ex Officine navali dei Cantieri, caratterizzate da strutture imponenti e spazi ampi, divengono un grande contenitore funzionale, una sorta di piccolo borgo al coperto in cui si realizzano tutte le attività della vita quotidiana; spazi pubblici e privati, servizi commerciali, terziari e residenze sono intervallati e messi in relazione mediante sistemi di percorrenza gerarchizzati, caratterizzati da qualità di spazio differenti. Annesso alle officine si trova l’Edificio A che, in virtù della sua valenza storica e della caratteristica pianta libera dettata da quelle che erano le necessità di un cantiere navale, è stato destinato a funzioni di rilievo: un mercato permanente, un museo e, infine, uno yacht club. Una grande piazza, posta in posizione baricentrica ed interposta tra il mare e la ferrovia, offre un’occasione per la realizzazione di nuovi collegamenti con la città circostante. A levante, posto tra due scali un tempo utilizzati per l’alaggio e il varo delle imbarcazioni, si situa l’edificio B; spina commerciale attiva al piano terra, ospita ai piani superiori residenze a ballatoio per terminare, in sommità, con quattro “ville”.
