What the following thesis is about is the development of a strategy to enhance the square of the Patio de Banderas and the underground archaeological site, located within the museum complex of the Real Alcazar of Seville. The archaeological survey was carried out between 2009 and 2014 and has brought to light important discoveries concerning the reconstruction of the city's origin, but the site, initially intended for opening to the public, has been closed leaving its destiny unsolved. The interest in this theme comes from the importance of the discoveries made during the archaeological survey to reconstruct the evolution of the city and at the same time the importance of the Patio de Banderas space within the urban fabric of Seville. The thesis work is articulated through a first historical explanation, from the birth to the contemporary evolution of the city and its most important events that have defined the urban configuration of today. Subsequently a summary of the research and the documentation of the entire archaeological survey is reported, from the methods used to the description of the findings found period by period. In this section are reported the plants written by the archaeologist with the findings divided for each historical period, the description of the hypothesis made on the type of settlement present, the final drawing of the excavation state before its coverage and the work of filling and covering of the site as well as the restoration of the square to its previous state. Subsequently the strategy to be adopted to enhance this space is proposed, it is a double intervention both at the level of the square and at the underlying level of the excavation. For both levels the project plans and the longitudinal section are reported with the diagrams concerning the strategies and the organization of the site. The final speech that supports the research and project work carried out in the thesis is a chapter that is divided between the themes of urban archaeology, identity and collective archaeology. Discipline calls in order to explain how the sharing of the historical culture of a city with its citizens is important in order to generate an awareness of historical identity in the user and how it, associated with correct planning tools, is able to change the fabric urban development going to improve it and making sure that marginal places are involved in the daily activities of citizens.
