Citta, icona urbana e campus universitario. Progetto per ampliamento dei servizi della FAU USP di Sao Paulo del Brasile

The work proposes to carry out the expansion project of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo, a brutalist building of the architect João Batista Vilanova Artigas. The elaboration of the intervention incorporates the problem of acting within a framework of São Paulo architecture, a school that has many virtues, but which currently lacks spaces for the full activity of teaching and learning the profession. Through this work it was possible to address problems that I was interested in during the course of this master's degree, such as the realization of projects in contact with works already carried out and of cultural importance, and how to interact with realities that marked a certain epoch that can not be forgotten or rejected. I studied inside the FAU building for more than five years, I have participated in several phases of the life of the building, amidst the gutters and stalactites of the infiltrations on the roof, beneath the blue tarps that protected us from this ruined structure during the renovation of the gardens and departments, as part of the discussions of the Participative Master Plan of 2011 and visits to the extraordinary renovations of the building in 2014. Thus, my training as an architect was strongly impacted by the lessons that the volume itself teaches us, and this work tries to create plus an element in design form to enrich the discussion that involves it. The thesis is composed of four chapters of research and discussion, and a propositional chapter. It is considered pertinent to briefly mention the context in which the university city is inserted, in addition to its history of implementation. Afterwards, it deepens specific themes to the building and how it was part of a more comprehensive urban plan that would incorporate the university faculties of human, to finally study the design of the building itself, constructing a reading of theoretical and thematic approximation of the objective of work. The buildings created are the result of the design criteria assumed during the course of the research, together with the interpretation and analysis of the FAU, in an effort to provide a respectful insertion into the existing monument.

Il lavoro di tesi si propone di realizzare un progetto di espansione della Facoltà di Architettura e Urbanistica dell'Università di São Paulo, un edificio brutalista dell'architetto João Batista Vilanova Artigas. L'elaborazione dell'intervento incorpora il problema di azione all'interno di un marco dell'architettura della città, una scuola che ha molte virtù, ma che attualmente non dispone di spazi per la piena attività di insegnamento e apprendimento della professione. Attraverso questo lavoro è stato possibile affrontare i problemi a cui ero interessato durante il corso di questa Laurea Magistrale, come la realizzazione di progetti a contatto con opere già svolte e di importanza culturale, e come interagire con realtà che hanno segnato una certa epoca che non può essere dimenticata o respinta. Ho studiato all'interno dell'edificio della FAU per più di cinque anni, ho partecipato a diverse fasi della vita dell'edificio, tra le grondaie e le stalattiti delle infiltrazioni sul tetto; sotto le tele blu che ci proteggevano da questa struttura in rovina; durante la ristrutturazione dei giardini e dipartimenti; come parte delle discussioni del Piano Direttivo Partecipativo del 2011; e visite ai lavori straordinari di riforme dell'edificio nel 2014. Così, la mia formazione come architetto è stata fortemente influenzata dalle lezioni che questo volume stesso ci insegna, e questo lavoro cerca di creare un elemento in più in forma di designo che possa arricchire la discussione che lo coinvolge. La tesi è composta da quattro capitoli di ricerca e discussione e un capitolo proposizionale. Si ritiene opportuno menzionare brevemente il contesto in cui è inserita la città universitaria, oltre alla sua storia di implementazione. Successivamente, approfondire temi specifici per l'edificio e come faceva parte di un piano urbanistico più complesso che incorporava le facoltà delle scienze umane, per studiare infine la progettazione dell'edificio stesso, costruendo una lettura di approssimazione teorica e tematica dell'obiettivo di lavoro. Gli edifici creati sono il risultato dei criteri di progettazione assunti nel corso della ricerca, insieme all'interpretazione e all'analisi della FAU, nel tentativo di fornire un rispettoso inserimento nel monumento esistente.
