Il fondo di disegni di Luigi Dodi al Politecnico di Milano

The thesis is focused on the cataloging of the drawings in the "Luigi Dodi" fund, deposited at the DIAP (Department of Architecture and Planning) in February 2004 and now merged into the DAStU archives (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies). The "Luigi Dodi" collection (on the first chapter) consists of two drawers of drawings, 53 folders of documents and several printed volumes from Luigi Dodi’s personal library and so far had been the subject of a summary inventory. The cataloging of all the drawings of the fund, the subject of this work, was the occasion to begin to investigate the activity of this engineer-architect, linked to the history of the Politecnico di Milano, given is long activity as a lecturer in Urban Planning and a brief parenthesis as dean of the Faculty of Architecture in the early sixties. Luigi Dodi (whose biography can be found on the second chapter) is in fact a professional whose architectural activity remains to be explored, in the absence of monographic publications. The cataloging (to which the third chapter is dedicated) examined 43 projects, for a total of 365 drawings. A critical report was dedicated to each project, written consulting, besides the available bibliography, the documentary materials available in the folders of the archive. In the restitution of the work, it was decided to adopt a geographical subdivision of the projects, in order to make evident the areas in which Luigi Dodi's activity. The text is accompanied by a CD containing the photographic reproduction of all the drawings of the fund, which will be made available to the DAStU Archives, to facilitate consultation and to minimize the manipulation of the original documents.

Il lavoro di tesi si è concentrato sulla catalogazione dei disegni presenti nel fondo “Luigi Dodi”, depositato presso il DIAP (Dipartimento di Architettura e Pianificazione) nel febbraio 2004 e oggi confluito tra gli archivi del DAStU (Dipartimento di Architettura e Studi Urbani). Il fondo “Luigi Dodi” (cui è dedicato il primo capitolo) è costituito da due cassettiere di disegni, da 53 faldoni di documenti e da diversi volumi a stampa provenienti dalla biblioteca personale di Luigi Dodi e finora era stato oggetto di un inventario sommario. La catalogazione di tutti gli elaborati grafici del fondo, oggetto di questo lavoro, ha costituito l’occasione per cominciare ad indagare l’attività di questo ingegnere-architetto, legato alla storia del Politecnico di Milano da una lunga attività come docente di Urbanistica e da una breve parentesi come preside della Facoltà di Architettura nei primi anni Sessanta. Luigi Dodi (cui è dedicato il secondo capitolo) è infatti un professionista la cui attività architettonica resta ancora da approfondire, in assenza di pubblicazioni monografiche. La catalogazione (cui è dedicato il terzo capitolo) ha preso in esame 43 progetti, per un totale di 365 disegni. Ad ogni progetto è stata dedicata una scheda critica, per la stesura della quale sono stati consultati, oltre alla bibliografia disponibile, i materiali documentari corrispondenti presenti nei faldoni. Nella restituzione del lavoro è stato scelto di adottare una suddivisione geografica dei progetti, in modo da rendere evidente le zone in cui si è concentrata l’attività di Luigi Dodi. Al testo è allegato un CD contenente la riproduzione fotografica di tutti i disegni del fondo, che verrà messo a disposizione degli Archivi del DAStU, per agevolarne la consultazione e per limitare al massimo la manipolazione dei documenti originali.
