The purpose of the present thesis project is the manufacturing of shape memory polymer scleral bands without the use of sutures, as a possible alternative to the current PDMS bands used for the treatment of retinal detachment. For this purpose, a shape memory polyether-urethane with and without two types of filler (titanium dioxide and barium titanate) has been studied and produced with two techniques: solvent casting and injection molding. Morphological, thermogravimetric, shape recovery, thermodynamic and biological characterization have been carried out. The studied materials have given promising results in terms of shape recovery and biological characterization. For the future, samples and bands could be produced with the fused deposition modeling technique.

Abstract
The purpose of the present thesis project is the manufacturing of shape memory polymer scleral bands without the use of sutures, as a possible alternative to the current PDMS bands used for the treatment of retinal detachment. For this purpose, a shape memory polyether-urethane with and without two types of filler (titanium dioxide and barium titanate) has been studied and produced with two techniques: solvent casting and injection molding. Morphological, thermogravimetric, shape recovery, thermodynamic and biological characterization have been carried out. The studied materials have given promising results in terms of shape recovery and biological characterization. For the future, samples and bands could be produced with the fused deposition modeling technique.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
