Revitalizing Capo d'Orso fortress : military museum

Located in one of the most beautiful natural places in Italy, the importance of Capo d’Orso Fortress has been seen since the world war happened in the past. the coastal view in every spot on the top of the fortress and the landscape make this place become more attractive. The site is rich of Mediterranean vegetation with the trekking path which creates an opportunity for this place. Currently, the Archipelago National Park or in another way called Maddalena Archipelago is in there which is part of the European network of areas of great environmental importance (Site of Community Importance and Special Protection Area) with the value of landscape during prehistoric time for the presence of habitats and creatures that seem to come together to show a unique performance. Unfortunately, the structure of the site and its landscape are abandoned as the war ended. Now, the area of the fortress is nothing but ruined structures and ironically it is locked up from the public, yet the memory remains with local people and the place. Meanwhile, tourists who visit this area only can reach the area through the existing trekking path from the beach or the nearest touristic place. This place is truly a hidden treasure for the past and the future. The new vision of this area was proposed by the local municipality in order to improve the quality of the space and expanding this hidden treasure’s beauty. They started to propose a new function of the site as Military Museum. The Museum will become a reference point for a change of Mediterranean history knowledge and military arts. It also has to represent the value of the space as historical importance apart of the new function. Once the site complexity has been analyzed, the initial proposal of the project is to deal with the with the topographical landscape and the ruined structure which are currently the most fundamental features in the site. The idea is to try to restore and redesign even adding the site with both traditional or modern technologies. In the other way, the approach of designing landscape will focus on connecting the permeability of motion in the various level and then utilize the existing open space as a new public area for local use. Then, the existing architecture will be restored through enhancing the quality of the building for both interior and exterior without ignoring its historical values. Situato in uno dei luoghi naturali più belli d'Italia, l'importanza della fortezza di Capo d'Orso è stata vista sin dalla guerra mondiale avvenuta in passato. la vista costiera in ogni punto sulla cima della fortezza e il paesaggio rende questo posto più attraente. Il sito è ricco di vegetazione mediterranea con il percorso trekking che crea opportunità per questo posto. Attualmente, il Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago o in un altro modo chiamato Arcipelago della Maddalena è lì che fa parte della rete europea di aree di grande importanza ambientale (Sito di importanza comunitaria e Area di protezione speciale) con il valore del paesaggio durante il tempo preistorico per la presenza di habitat e creature che sembrano unirsi per mostrare una performance unica. Sfortunatamente, la struttura del sito e il suo paesaggio sono abbandonati al termine della guerra. Ora, l'area della fortezza non è altro che strutture in rovina e, ironia della sorte, è rinchiusa dal pubblico, ma la memoria rimane con la popolazione locale e il luogo. Nel frattempo, i turisti che visitano questa zona possono raggiungere l'area solo attraverso il percorso di trekking esistente dalla spiaggia o dal luogo turistico più vicino. Questo posto è veramente un tesoro nascosto per il passato e il futuro. La nuova visione di quest'area è stata proposta dal comune locale per migliorare la qualità dello spazio e ampliare la bellezza di questo tesoro nascosto. Hanno iniziato a proporre una nuova funzione del sito come Museo Militare. Il museo dovrebbe diventare un punto di riferimento per il cambiamento della conoscenza della storia mediterranea e delle arti militari. Deve anche rappresentare il valore dello spazio come importanza storica a parte la nuova funzione. Una volta analizzata la complessità del sito, la proposta iniziale del progetto è quella di affrontare il paesaggio topografico e la struttura in rovina che sono attualmente le caratteristiche fondamentali del sito. L'idea è di provare a ripristinare e riprogettare anche aggiungendo il sito con tecnologie tradizionali o moderne. D'altra parte, l'approccio di progettazione del paesaggio si concentrerà sul collegamento della permeabilità del movimento nei vari livelli e quindi utilizzerà lo spazio aperto esistente come nuova area pubblica ad uso locale. Quindi, l'architettura esistente verrà ripristinata migliorando la qualità dell'edificio sia all'interno che all'esterno senza ignorarne i valori storici.
