[Re]tropolitan city of Aleppo. A post-war reconstruction proposal for the city of Aleppo

The city of Aleppo is one of the first and most important cities in the history of mankind. However, due to the unfortunate war that’s been going on in Syria for the past 7 years, the city (as well as the whole country) has witnessed a lot of death and destruction. This dissertation aims to provide a proposal that applies new methods and techniques of sustainable and resilient architecture for the city of Aleppo through conducting an in depth research of the history of the country, the city, the war and its impacts as well as previous case studies of major cities that were able to rise up successfully after suffering the consequences of a vicious war. The aim behind this research is in no way, shape or form political. It will revolve purely around new architectural and landscape techniques and methodologies that can be applied in order to provide the future generations with a much safer and more beautiful future through the mesmerizing language of architecture, landscape design and urban planning.

La città di Aleppo è una delle prime e più importanti città della storia dell'umanità. Tuttavia, a causa della sfortunata guerra che è in corso in Siria negli ultimi 7 anni, la città (così come l’intero paese) ha assistito a molte morti e distruzioni. Questo tesi di laurea mira a fornire una proposta che applica nuovi metodi e tecniche di architettura sostenibile e resiliente per la città di Aleppo conducendo una ricerca approfondita della storia del paese, della città, della guerra e dei suoi impatti oltre che precedenti studi di casi di grandi città che sono riuscite a emergere con successo dopo aver subito le conseguenze di una guerra feroce. Lo scopo di questa ricerca non è in alcun modo di forma politica. Ruoterà puramente attorno alle nuove tecniche architettoniche e paesaggistiche e metodologie che possono essere applicate per fornire alle generazioni che verranno un futuro molto più sicuro e più bello attraverso il linguaggio ipnotico di architettura, landscape design e pianificazione urbana.
