San Francisco Bay Book House Impressive as some of the results may be, it seems that, no structural, horizontal, elevated form, can be conceived without turning into an icon - ‘a landmark’ - making the line up of recent bridges and high-rise buildings as one of the new symbols of the SF City. The unit has proportions typical for dimensions of one block of San Francisco’s city grid. The structural luminous form of Book House is levitating underneath the Bay Bridge, expanding the city tissue in it’s most extended outwards cell, creating strong character on the skyline and waterline of the Bay. The Ring of roof covers 5 independent buildings that are hosting different functions, making them together a complete complex and a hybrid. The roof covers and joins the main media-library, tourist center, bookstore, fairy terminal and museum. The library functions are distributed on the two levels that are blending into continuous space going up or down like the San Francisco’s unique streets. These small-scale hills and valleys created by the slab give this space a unique character by gradually changing view level and creating smooth transitions inside. The roof serves as open-air reading areas accessible from staircases in each building. The overall strong form of the building creates a series of public spaces that can accommodate a multitude of programs within its open courtyard spot. A 360 degree variable view inwards and outwards offers a unique experience for all the visitors of the San Francisco Bay Book House.

Abstract
A 360 degree variable view inwards and outwards offers a unique experience for all the visitors of the San Francisco Bay Book House.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
