Abstract
The choice of topic is due to my interest in multifunctional buildings. A theme that has always been dear to me and which I have faced many times in my university career The tendency to insert more functions within a single building, distributed by a single institution or institution, is now a norm. Institutions such as museums, hospitals, airports and stations are no longer identifiable with their primary purpose, that is to expose, treat and wait, but contain within them other activities, which allow us to live our experiences, in a richer mine , interesting and varied. The Sescs best represent this idea, with the difference, that there has never existed a primary purpose, that is the basic activity that represents this institution. The SESC was born with a very precise motive: it is a private entity that aims to guarantee social well-being and quality of life for traders and their families. Being institutions born with this objective quite abstract even the architectures have some particularities, which will be studied through some case studies, present in the city of São Paulo. The course of study and planning began in Sao Paulo, Brazil, during the erasmus, thanks to the help of Professor Milton Braga. São Paulo is a city that grows exponentially and without control. This reality requires controlled and secure public spaces. With these prerogatives, the idea of designing a Sesc in an area of the district of Campo Limpo is born. An area of the city that presents many problems and resides a fairly poor population. The desire to create a space adapted for leisure and recreation was the leitmotiv of the whole work. A place where everything can happen and in which the association could set up exhibitions, shows and activities. This objective was realized with the concept of significant space, coined by Flavio Motta in his "Textos Informe"; the antithesis of the "non-place" of Marc Augé. Through the chapters, we explain the history of the association and its objectives, together with the analysis and study of the project cases. The architectures dealt with best represent the concepts, activities and programs set up by the institution, tackling the problems due to the various urban realities, historical and environmental contexts. The architect becomes the promoter of the new possibilities that are given to the average user. Working in the city of São Paulo, especially in the suburbs, is complicated.
