Due to the increasingly complexity of supply chains, the topic of supply chain visibility has become a fundamental part of supply chain management; indeed, it allows companies to increase control over the supply chain’s processes, leading to the identification, and the implementation, of the right supply chain strategy. Considering that, in the last years, supply chain management has taken a central role in luxury industry, very few contribution dealing with supply chain visibility in luxury fashion industry have been proposed in the supply chain literature so far. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is to investigate the current level of visibility of luxury fashion companies in order to define a set of guidelines that can support companies in the enhancement of their visibility over the supply chain. To achieve this goal, two studies have been developed. Study I aims at identified the types of information that a company should exchange in order to pursue supply chain visibility. Moreover, it identifies the main benefits coming from its implementation. Starting from the results of Study I, the purpose of Study II is to analyse the current practises of luxury fashion companies, in terms of supply chain visibility, in order to develop a final research framework. More in detail, the research framework defines five stages and five managerial tasks, that a luxury fashion company should implement in order to increase its visibility over the supply chain. In order to develop the framework, the starting point of this thesis is a picture of the available literature related to supply chain management and the topic of visibility. Firstly a description of the main studies on the supply chain management has been developed and after, supply chain risk management and supply chain visibility have been considered. Once the importance of visibility has been defined, a detailed analysis on its managerial practises has been provided in order to understand how to implement visibility from an operational point of view. From the analysis on the existing literature, four gaps emerged, and they have been addressed with Study I and Study II. Study I addresses the first gap and it has been developed with a cross-analysis of the existing literature; whereas Study II considers the other three gaps and it has been implemented through a multiple case study approach, which analyses seven luxury fashion companies.

Abstract
Study I addresses the first gap and it has been developed with a cross-analysis of the existing literature; whereas Study II considers the other three gaps and it has been implemented through a multiple case study approach, which analyses seven luxury fashion companies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
