We describe the design of a IEC61850-based directional selective protection system for the power distribution network of an airport. The IEC61850 protocol is used in communicating between protective devices (IEDs, Intelligent Electronic Devices) on different voltage levels, i.e. Low Voltage and Medium Voltage. A redundant optical fiber communication system is used for station-to-station communication: this provides redundancy and fault tolerance in the communication channel used to transfer GOOSE messages between devices. A concept system based on this architecture was built and tested using a Hardware in the loop testbed. Both electrical faults and communication malfunctionings, possibly occurring at the same time, have been considered and simulated. Performance of the system was then tested by multiple measurements of delay time between fault and trip signalling. All tests were completed successfully.

Abstract
All tests were completed successfully.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
