Waterjet technology (WJ) is one of the most non-conventional technologies used in cut edge manufacturing developed in the last thirty years. This technology combines a waterjet beam with abrasive particles for cutting operations; perfect cut edges with low surface roughness and defects are achievable without thermal distortions or any other material distortions. These advantages guarantee the development of Waterjet as competitor of other non-conventional technologies as for instance EDM and Laser. As known, the quality plays an important role on the manufacturing market, in particular for micro applications where the precision should be absolute. The possibility to realize a fast and easy system for the quality control process can reduce time as well as costs. Concerning quality control, the majority of the researches on WJ technology, for the quality control, deal with the analysis of the process parameters but only few of them focus the attention on the possibility to measure and control the workpieces directly on machine: the aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how it is possible. Knowing what are the main dimensions of work pieces cut with micro water jet machine and the though environmental conditions, an optical device with a CMOS camera and a racy optics is selected. This system guarantees high precision and small measurement uncertainty with an affordable cost, which is lower than the requested tolerances. Abstract
