In the present thesis project was introduced a simplified approach for the estimation of settlements function of loading rate, for a rigid and strip foundation lying on a layer of saturated cohesive soil. To this end, the mechanical response of the system was studied through a series of hydro-mechanical coupled analyses by means of finite element code. The numerical results were used to define a constitutive relationship that relates the generalized stress (load applied to the foundation) and the generalized deformation (displacement of the foundation) and that is able to reproduce the mechanical response of the system for different loading rate. For the sake of simplicity, the numerical analyses have been carried out under the hypotheses of isotropic and homogeneous soil, characterized by a linear elastic and an elastic-plastic mechanical behavior.

Abstract
In the present thesis project was introduced a simplified approach for the estimation of settlements function of loading rate, for a rigid and strip foundation lying on a layer of saturated cohesive soil. To this end, the mechanical response of the system was studied through a series of hydro-mechanical coupled analyses by means of finite element code. The numerical results were used to define a constitutive relationship that relates the generalized stress (load applied to the foundation) and the generalized deformation (displacement of the foundation) and that is able to reproduce the mechanical response of the system for different loading rate. For the sake of simplicity, the numerical analyses have been carried out under the hypotheses of isotropic and homogeneous soil, characterized by a linear elastic and an elastic-plastic mechanical behavior.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
