The V2G concept aims at utilise at its best the widespread and distributed presence of batteries inside the vehicles, with several benefits: for the grid, the owners of EVs and the environment. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a model with the aim to evaluate the economic profita- bility of the V2G paradigm, providing a holistic view considering both technical and economic aspects. The model was designed considering the maturity of the V2G technology, the possible market responsiveness and impacts on the grid. The present work is organised in eight chapters, clustered in two blocks: • Topic introduction: the first five chapters (Vehicle-to-X, Italian electric- ity market, battery overview, e-Mobility market, benefits) describe the V2G para- digm, the enabler technologies and the EV market responiveness and growth. All the chapters relies on literature review of the topics • Model development and results: the last three chapters (business mod- els, model description, economic analysis) describe the business models and meth- odology and the assumptions used to develop the model and finally present the eco- nomic results The economic analysis highlight how the profitability of V2G is quite low. Despite a high po- tential, due to technical losses as well as behavioural losses of users, the real profitability is not enough to make sustainable the business models presented. Though, it has been possible to quantify the losses and the cost thresholds that may make V2G sustainable in the next future.
