The project is addressed to the evolving open and island kitchen trends and the integration of air quality management into the horizontal cooking experience. First, the nature of the island and open kitchen and the existing air quality management solutions have been analyzed in order to define the problem areas that can be improved. Key product features that characterize the kitchen hoods have been defined to create a reference frame for the products to be compared with their abilities to respond to the users’ needs. Secondly, a morphological matrix has been devised to generate concept design ideas that can answer to the problematic areas and to the key product features defined for the market needs. Generated concepts are used to pinpoint the possible solutions and a funneling method is used to merge the possible answers into one main concept that can satisfy the user and market needs with minimized trade-off points. Horizon is the end-product which is a downdraft hood designed to address the needs of the user and the market. It is designed to be compatible with different appliances and counter spaces to give the freedom of desired kitchen space to the user. Horizon is a system of air quality management located below the counter, unlike the traditional above-counter products, aiming to respond to the needs of a better island/open kitchen experience. It is meant to give a satisfactory odor captivation performance in an optimized volume with an easy to install and maintain the structure.

Abstract
It is meant to give a satisfactory odor captivation performance in an optimized volume with an easy to install and maintain the structure.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
