Abstract

Denim has always been using over the centuries. So, how is it possible to innovate in this huge sector? First of all, as the pioneer of denim in Italy Adriano Goldschmied said: “ The future of denim will be in the luxury cluster”. In fact, Jeans have always been seen as a commodity, thus it could be looking paradoxical, but the luxury field could be the golden ticket. First of all, I would like to go back in the jeans’s history by focusing on what nowadays it is considered an it jeans: Levi’s. It has not been merely a workwear clothes, but gradually it represents youth, subcultures and consequently their values. Freedom, Revolution, and Innovation. Jeans are considered an ultimate American clothes, but thanks to its iconic value it has been spread all over the world. The origins of the history of denim in Italy should be researched in Veneto landscape with Adriano Goldschmied that is considered the “Italian denim Godfather”. Thanks to him some important brands such as Diesel and Replay were enstablished. On the other hand, in France another genius decided to adopt denim to revolutionize the sector. Thus, Martin Margiela created jeans that follow his main dictums: deconstruction and minimalism. By analizyng the contemporary landscape, words are displacing the essential style of the previous years. Thus, I started from conceptual artists that collaborated with modern brands, I came back to zeroed words, symbols that are perceived ad a written language. All these elements are mixed up in what is called luxury streetwear. These latter is a brand new phenomen that combine elements of streetstyle such as autenthicity and the identity with the luxury concept coming from catwalks. In this way it does no longer exist boundaries and labels that tighten up the creativity. Since the starting point it is the streetwear, denim is the protagonist. Several brands re-constructed the Levi’s heritage by innovate it such as Off-White, Vetements, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Re/Done. This capsule collections can be compared to Dadaists.
