The magical Colombian pottery culture. How through a co-participatory approach crafts in Colombia could get new markets, fitting the demands of today's world

The aim of this thesis is to connect craftsman culture with today’s market, in order to discover new meanings, get back to traditional techniques, give power to artisans and so, produce objects with meaningful stories. This project will be focused on Colombia culture and traditions, especially in a little town called Carmen de Viboral. It is placed in the department of Antioquia. The goal of the project is that the product service system solution could be applied to any other culture around the world. Colombia is well known for its strong handcraft culture, in which every community expresses its personality, beliefs, and traditions through their technical knowledge. Through the last years, the global economic system has been growing in this region. Nowadays the handcrafts labor has been decreasing; being these products replaced by industrial and imported products. Designing a service - system that encourages artisans and designers to work together will be a great start to persevere techniques and traditions, and at the same time give power to those communities and doing so, allow them to communicate with the world and also to grow economically.

Lo scopo di questa tesi è quello di connettere la cultura artigianale con il mercato di oggi, per scoprire nuovi significati, tornare alle tecniche tradizionali, dare potere agli artigiani e quindi produrre oggetti con storie significative. Questo progetto sarà incentrato sulla cultura e le tradizioni della Colombia, specialmente in una piccola città chiamata Carmen de Viboral. È inserito nel dipartimento di Antioquia. L'obiettivo del progetto è che la soluzione del sistema di servizio del prodotto possa essere applicata a qualsiasi altra cultura in tutto il mondo. La Colombia è ben conociuta per la sua forte cultura artigianale, in cui ogni comunità esprime la sua personalità, le sue convinzioni e le sue tradizioni attraverso le sue conoscenze tecniche. Negli ultimi anni, il sistema economico globale è cresciuto in questa regione. Al giorno d'oggi il lavoro manuale è diminuito; essendo questi prodotti sostituiti da prodotti industriali e importati. Progettare un servizio - un sistema che incoraggia artigiani e designer a lavorare insieme sarà un ottimo inizio per perseverare in tecniche e tradizioni, e allo stesso tempo dare potere a quelle comunità e farlo, permettere loro di comunicare con il mondo e anche di crescere economicamente.
