Ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is a high-strength material (compressive strength greater than 120 MPa). Thanks to the low water/binder ratio (about 0.2) and the mineral additions, it is characterized by a low porosity, which is often considered an high durability assurance, also due to the crack opening control caused by the fibres addiction. However, studies on the long-term behavior of this material are relatively limited, in particular in relation to the corrosion of the steel reinforcement. The study present the preliminary results of an experimental investigation aimed at the characterization of the corrosion behavior of the armature embedded in UHPFRC concrete. A commercial self-compacting UHPFRC concrete with steel fibers in different contents (2.5% and 3.5% by volume) was considered. In addition to the characterization tests in the fresh and hardened state, tests were carried out for the evaluation of parameters correlated with the durability of the material, such as water absorption, sorptivity, electrical resistivity, resistance to carbonation and chlorides penetration. Furthermore, corrosion tests were started on specimens reinforced with different types of steel, also in pre-cracked concrete. The results obtained have shown that, thanks to the high performance of these concretes, the corrosion behavior of the steel reinforcement is very good
Il calcestruzzo fibrorinforzato ad altissime prestazioni (Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete, UHPFRC) è un materiale ad alta resistenza (resistenza a compressione superiore a 120 MPa) la cui composizione viene progettata per soddisfare determinate prestazioni allo stato fresco e allo stato indurito. Grazie al basso rapporto acqua/legante (circa 0.2) e alla presenza di aggiunte minerali, è caratterizzato da una bassa porosità, che, in combinazione con la presenza di fibre che limitano l’apertura delle fessure, viene spesso considerata garanzia di una intrinseca durabilità. Tuttavia, sono relativamente limitati gli studi sul comportamento a lungo termine di questo materiale, in particolare in relazione ai fenomeni di corrosione dell’armatura. Lo studio di ricerca presenta i risultati preliminari di un'indagine sperimentale volta alla caratterizzazione del comportamento alla corrosione dell’armatura a contatto con calcestruzzo UHPFRC. Si è considerato un calcestruzzo UHPFRC commerciale autocompattante con fibre in acciaio in diversi tenori (2.5% e 3.5% in volume). Oltre alle prove di caratterizzazione allo stato fresco e indurito, sono state condotte prove per la valutazione di parametri correlati con la durabilità del materiale, come l’assorbimento d’acqua, la risalita capillare, la resistività elettrica, la resistenza alla penetrazione della carbonatazione e dei cloruri. Inoltre, sono state avviate prove di corrosione su provini armati con diversi tipi di armatura, anche in seguito alla pre-fessurazione del calcestruzzo. I risultati ottenuti hanno dimostrato che le caratteristiche di questi calcestruzzi determinano un buon comportamento alla corrosione delle armature al loro interno.
