Postpartum Period, like any other period of rehabilitation, is important to all women. Abstract

Postpartum Period, like any other period of rehabilitation, is important to all women. Even though many may argue that delivery is a natural process and by no means should it be treated like an illness, but the physical and psychological discomfort still exsists and sometimes it causes serious social problems like suicide (the second most common reason for maternal death after delivery) and infanticide. Home, the interior space most neo-mothers stay at during their first month after childbirth, is not always beneficial to their recovery because mothers can be overwhelmed by housework and staying at home alone can overwhelm them with isolation, helplessness and depression especially in this in-motion era where neo-mothers can be in a foreign culture with few or even no relatives aside for constant help and support. Several articles are written, many documentaries are released in all over the western world to call for more attention towords women in this particular path of their life, still, few is done to change the situation out of many reasons and one particular superstition that women are born to be mothers and every women should know instinctively how to take care of herself and can cope with any difficulties related to their baby. In China this problem is solved and even converted into an economic opportunity thanks to the longevous tradition Zuo YueZi. The tradition itself is not faultless with its outdated taboos and superstition. But the concept of caring women both physically and spiritually in this period to facilitate a quicker and better recovery is what we can still benefit. What if we can mix this tradition from the far east with the current situation of european country and as a starting point, with that in Milan, an energetic city full of both domestic and international immigrants striving here for a better life? In order to make a project that can really help neo-mothers, i consulted numerous articles, papers and website regarding the topic, talked with several mothers about their experience, feeling and demand, visited two of the most successful YueZi Centers in Shanghai and had two very important interviews in Milan with a psychologist studing teen mothers and a neonatal and obstetrical doctor in Hospital Buzzi and did a questionary to mothers and future motehrs.
